Local ABC affiliate was interrupted by ABC News Special Report.
The pilot is in constant contact with the ground and insists the plane is secure. Nonetheless, the flight is being diverted to Moncton, NB, Canada as a precaution.

It is a bit difficult to sqwak such a code by accident. Transponder training is just not something an airline pilot does in the air.

Man, if this guy somehow accidentally managed to squawk 7500, he's in a world of pain when that thing lands. Which is, of course, preferable to an actual hijack.

If it's hijacked would the pilots really be able to direct the flight to a certain destination?

Virgin Air (per CNN and Fox) say it's a false alarm. Homeland Security (per Fox) confirms hijack.
