They also allow conservative messages... I don't think they monitor content.

They allow the marketing of the various Ithaca is the City of Evil items

.

"... Even here in Nashville, I see lefty cars with Christian insulting bumperstickers."

In San Francisco, I see conservative cars with anti-left stickers:

Free Tibet: You and what army?

"Shut up, hippie"

I don't find Christianity (or Judaism for that matter) equivocable with Islam.

Fine. Others may, and they can if they want to. What you are saying is that you don't want people expressing their opinions if you don't like them. Like I told mark, print up some shirts bashing whatever you want...Islam, atheism, whatever. If you don't like shirts that bash Christianity, make some that bash those who bash it.

My opinion is consistent...bash whatever you want, even if I don't like it. But don't complain if I bash something you like, then.

BB, you're equivocating religions. I don't. I am a not very pious Christian. I don't like it when Christianity is bashed. I defend Judaism simply by default.

I feel no compunction whatsoever to do so for Islam.

I don't understand your thinking. I make value judgements all the time. Hence to my simple mind:

Christianity>Islam

It's really not complicated. History is predicated on such.

I know you are one of FR's resident self proclaimed hedonists....which is fine. I hope you're having a good run of bacchanalia. I'm no bible thumper myself. I take sides with my fellow Christians and Jews simply because I know who my friends are. I'm surprised you are so PC about respecting other religions though. I figured you for a damn the torpedoes sort of debaucherer.

We need more of that here.

I would like a big rear window sticker of the famed Continental Soldier powdering his AR-15.

Self-proclaimed hedonists?

Hardly, m'friend. despite what my outward appearance my have you think, I am not anything of the sort. :) I do not touch alcohol; I don't smoke; I've never touched an illegal drug, not evem marijuana. I am, at age 34, a virgin. Doesn't bother me if folks know.

And, while you're entitled to your opinion, of course, I take what I truly feel is the Constitutional view. The First Amendment says one has as much right to wear a shirt that says F*** CHRISTIANITY as one does to wear a shirt that says F*** ISLAM (or F*** ATHEISM or whatever). I may not like it, you may not like it. We may HATE it. So what? My opinion does not translate to the law of the land. Since when is that PC? I am not defending Islam; I am defending the right of someone to express their feelings about something. That also used to be a tenet of Conservatism.

Like I said, make you own shirts or stickers and display them, proudly! If you don't understand my thinking, well, no hard feelings. I like you. We'll agree to disagree.

Profanity is not protected by the First Amendment.

Yes Joe, in manyy cases it is. In 1971, the U. S. Supreme Court reversed the conviction of a man who had been arrested for wearing a jacket in a courthouse bearing the words "F*** the Draft." (Cohen v. California) Justice Harlan said, "We cannot allow the facile assumption that one can forbid particular words without also running a substantial risk of suppressing ideas in the process… [in that] much linguistic expression serves a dual communicative purpose: it conveys not only ideas capable of relatively precise, detailed explanations, but otherwise inexpressible emotions as well.”

Based on a series of cases decided by the Supreme Court in the early 1970s, it is clear that the use of profanity is protected speech under the First Amendment, at least when the profanity is used as part of the political message.

Plus, a direct quote from the Foundation for Individual Rights in Edication (a group that has received much praise from FR, deservedly so)..."To be clear, highly offensive material, including profanity, is fully protected under the First Amendment. "

Hey Mom,
Corin's looking for ideas for his Homeschool shop. Could you ping your list?

I have a bumpersticker that says,

Warning
Unsocialized Homeschoolers on Board.

How about some versions of islam?

(ie mohamed married a five year old)

The military has to do ABSURD hoops to "respect" the koran such as wearing GLOVES (?!) to not touch the book!

I remember college kids who treated their copies the same as any other mere book.
