Not to hijack an otherwise lovely thread, but your post reminded me of this gem:
A wife wakes up and sees her husband isn't in bed. She finds him in the kitchen crying over a cup of coffee.
"What's wrong?" the wife asks.
"Remember when you were only 16 and I was 18 and your dad caught us in the back seat of my car? He put a shotgun in my face and said, 'Either you marry my daughter, or you'll go to jail for twenty years.'"
The wife says, "Of course I remember. But, why are you crying?"
"Today is the day I would have been let out of jail!"

Its touching. Like the Bible says, "for love is as strong as death." To put the sense better, both will always be a fact of the human condition and if we are we are to find comfort in the face of death, love will survive even the grave. We will find the love of God and one day we will find those we love again and it could not be less since God made us not to be alone. He made men and women to find each other and to find happiness and the company of love together.

When I was in high school my best friend's great grandfather passed away. Her greatgrandmother began telling her family she would follow him shortly because she just could not live without him, her heart was breaking. She passed away within a week. She died in her sleep due to a previously undiscovered heart condition according to an autopsy. Her family believes that her heart did truly break.

If you ever get a chance to hear it, do. The music is so beautiful as well and country singer Kathy Mattea has a beautiful voice!

That my friend is a classic more enduring than even the sappiest remake of the Titanic story. I don't know, but I think most guys enjoy making fun of lovebirds just as much as we like chasing cats. It's nature's way... except for possible one month each spring...but that's past ;)

Maybe that's why there's a marriage tax.

God is merciful: as he assures the righteous of eternal life neither will He with hold those they have loved from them. He keeps His Promises in all things including love, since He implanted us with this beautiful gift. If we can love on earth, all the more so will we love in Heaven.

Not to play devils advocate (but it kinda sounds fun here :D), are you saying that those who do not find sappy love puppies with whom to share their food, couch and taxes will be unable to love in Heaven?

The most destructive souls are evil people deprived of the capacity to feel any emotion, including love. They're "emotionally blind." When we look at a sociopath and try to imagine a life without conscience or love - we can't even begin to imagine how terribly lonely these people are. And we should be blessed to have feelings. To shed tears for the things that move us, whether they bring joy or sadness. What moves good people most of all is the sight of love. God be praised!

I think your friend's mother always knew who she was and even if she lost her memory, she never lost her soul. She heard you and your friend and love is a blessing indeed - it defeats even the ravages of a disease that conspires to rob us of remembrance. For then God remembers and loves for us and I'm sure God expressed your friend's mother's love for your friend as well as for you. That is a comfort.

I thought I might have a live one ;)
So one is evil simply based on his or her ability to "feel" rather than his or her choices to do?
If our souls redemption hinges on emotion, I fear for all of us, my friend. And for those who are far too damaged by childhood abuse to feel a healthy range of emotions yet live lives of kindness nevertheless I would say they too have a part in Heaven. But the notion one does not get into heaven simply because he does not have a significant other is a theology quite new on the scene and something for which you did not directly answer (shame on you :p).
Love, incidentally is far from a feeling, it's truly more of a decision, as are all things of good character. It's nice to feel the warm-fuzzies, but to live off of them shows a lack of substantial maturity for anyone who does so.

When I get married and become a dad of a daughter I'm going to be the worst. I'll rename my shotgun after one of her previous bfs and let the current one do the math :D

Knew this story was already a 'country song' . . .
Remember this one by Kathy. . .but know there are a few more out there too.
This really is a sweet. . .bittersweet perhaps. . .'true love' story. . .certainly sounds like one, anyway.
Yes . .and some of 'Notebook' as well. . .
