"Conservatives in Washington believe that, in effect, a vote against Bolton would put an end to any hopes for higher political office that Sen. Hagel may harbor."

I would say that occurred a long time ago!

IMO Hagel just wants to make the White House sweat, try to get them to come crawling to him since they actually need him for something.

He's a grade A scumbag. Very bitter, egotistical, and vengeful. Still can't believe Cheney stole HIS Vice Presidency .... also a lunatic.

About eight out of ten times I hear Hagel, I'm disappointed in him.

Let me apologize to all of my fellow Freepers for helping foist Hagel on the GOP. I made the mistake of voting for him twice. When he visited my place of employment a while back he was asked at an assembly the point blank question about judicial nominees. He said that he supports all nominees getting an up or down vote on the floor. Im guessing hes wavering on that as well. Chuck Hagel- Big Red RINO.

I just called his office, and they said that they were not aware that Hagel was leaning against Bolton. He said that last week Hagel was in support of Bolton for US Ambassador.
Hmmmmmmmm ...

This is based on the LATIMES!

The LA TIMES piece is based on Hagel's conversation with Wolf Blitzer. I think this piece is based on Capitol Hill/White House contacts.

You can add Lindsay Graham to that list--I saw an article that says the HE is also thinking of running for POTUS--

Rolling eyes

Thank Goodnes ... He won't make it out of the primaries

"UP there?" You in FLA?

Please note that my tag line is quoting that 'distinguished' FReeper, EternalVigilance. It is NOT a statement of my sentiments - it is a statement of my astonishment at the degree to which those who aren't burning George Greer in effigy are equated with Nazis.

I'm only amazed (and relieved) that I haven't seen any statements about the 'WoT' i.e. the "War On Terri."

"If Hagel sabotages this nomination he can kiss the nomination goodbye, and my ass simultaneously....

In relation to the former, pigs will fly out of the latter.

Well, time to go to the backup plan. Someone with experience, and who brings diversity to the team . . . Former Ambassador Keyes!!

No dunking bird.

If the Senate fouls (pun intended) Bolton up....the next nominee should be GWB's neighbor in Crawford.

Uncle Ted.

If they kill the Bolton nomintation, then my suggestion is that we just leave the post vacant.

That or nominate Robert Bork.

fellow presidential hopeful Sen. Chuck Hagel (R.-Neb.) to his list of possible turncoats.

I would have to say that Hagel is an even LONGER shot than Tancredo-Idiot right now....

I thought sure Chaffee would make up an excuse at an opportune time. Didn't see Hagel coming. Sure am gald the Senate is such a collegial bunch, covering for each other. I wonder if the RNC had data that shows Chaffee would suffer more poll damage than Hagel, for a negative vote on Bolton, or if the decisions of Hagel and Chaffee are honestly independent.
