"To each his own"

agreed. Have fun ignoring the facts of the matter, I'll have fun not doing so.

Are you old enough to remember the three lane highway running between MCB Camp Pendleton and MCAS El Toro?

The scuttlebutt back in he 50's was that we lost more Marines on that road than we did at the Chosin Reservoir. Not to much pro active talk about safety back then, but the post mortem lectures were required to be quite lengthy.

While I have your attention, could you please tell me what one of these might be? From the article "Civilian Marines of (Unit Name)"

Geez Grace. What the heck have you started here? Since my college didn't have any fraternities, I never had to decide whether or not to join one. I don't think I missed out on much. But I kind of wish we had sororities. I've seen all the movies. The thought of whole houses filled with topless girls having pillow fights is pretty intriguing. That certainly would have added some culture that didn't otherwise exist at the Naval Academy.

You are awfully defensive when it comes to whether your "service" in your frat compares with that of a United States Marine. I mean...dont get me wrong, I am not trying to impugn your patriotism, with most college kids I know that its God, Country and....Frat. BTW, post #17 explains the why's.

Well i'm sorry I was put on a defensive foot.

I'm not comparing military life and fraternity life. I've lived both, Everyone here so far has done one or none of them. I'm comparing the stupid useless pledges signed by both, plus other organizations. Contrary to believe the article is completely about those stupid pledges. That has been my point from the start. Then it got turned into a fraternity bash based on misconceptions, Hollywood, and 1 personal experience.

Please don't imply that I'm getting defensive because I'm trying to compare any armed force member to a fraternity member. I agree that's apples and oranges, there is nothing to compare.

"with most college kids I know that its God, Country and....Frat."
I would contest it would be Booze, chicks, and booze. That seems to be the common misconception.

post 17 is riddled with sarcasm and has nothing to do with fraternities or any other similar organization.

Sarcasm yes, but once I calmed down, I explained why it is done.

How do you know it does nothing to keep the accident rate down?

How is this "morale busting"? Again, none of my NCO's would have disregarded what I told them to do. I will also say, however, that I always consulted my senior NCO's on such things. This seems like a very level-headed thing to do. Just a reminder, to a young kid headed off on liberty, that he should take a second to take measure of what he was pressing out to do. Not "morale busting", just prudent.

"make Marines THINK ..........."

That was something we didn't have to think about in the Old Corps.
When we get that globe and anchor we are Marines for the rest of our lives, and we act like Marines.

If we happen to be beating the crap out of fly guys, dogfaces or squids, we manage to get our uniforms squared away before the SP arrives.

Big talk from a jarhead with a bad leg!

BTW I just passed on a chance to hear DeLay at lunch tomorrow because I have to make a quick trip to Grand Isle. You feel like lunch Thursday or Friday?

You mean you're going to Grande Isle, and you're going to eat HERE before you go??!
If I could go to South Louisiana, I wouldn't eat for three days before I got there!

I won't be able to make lunch, HC.
I'm almost house bound until I can get this damn hip fixed.
You've been there with your back.
