Sorry for the off-topic question, but I'm sure there is a lot of Pittsburgh folk looking at this thread:
I just finished watching a History Channel documentary on the US Army, and it was stated that artillery noise from Gettysburg was heard all the way in Pittsburgh.
Yahoo maps tells me that is 185 miles. Is this possible?

Many of the replies here are indictive on the new feminized Amerika. This new culture isn't good for much of anything except consuming raw materials, creating waste, and performing menial slave-labor tasks. (They emerging Amerikan culture even sucks at the latter).
"That gun is too big. That one is too small. That one shoots too many bullets. That device is too destructive. That one looks too menacing". And so on...
There was a time in this country when you could own, carry, and use ANY weapon you wanted to. So long as you didn't harm anyone or weren't negligent. That was back when this was a relatively Free country.
The citenzry had better weapons than the state up until the early 1900s, when the trend started to change for the worse. It is no coincidence that the creation of a centralized bank, a national income tax, and a war-for-the-bankers, soon followed.
The end result of this nanny mindset about guns and weapons is that America is now a nation of sheep. No longer are we a nation of real men bent on exploration, construction, and invention.

We also had a house blow up in a gas explosion as well, it was a mile away from where I live. I even felt the shockwave hit my house.

Police say the shooting may have involved an AK-47. It's bad enough that the MSM calls a civilian version of an AK-47 an AK-47, BUT FREEPERS SHOULD KNOW BETTER!!!!
An AK-47 is a fully automatic weapon found in places like Iraq, NOT in this country. Quit aiding the MSM attempt to blur the lines and confuse the debate. No wonder there are so many uninformed people in this country
What we might have here is an AK-47 STYLED weapon that is NOT a machine gun. One pull of the trigger and one shot fired. Just like many normal hunting rifles in use all over the country. This one just looks ugly.

The fear should not be of another Columbine but of another Beslan.
Just as schools had to be redesigned to prevent deaths in fires and hurricanes, so must they be better planned for armed hostage situations (students or terrorists).
Beslan killed more than 20 to 1 over Columbine.

School violence is out of hand but aside from that why print, "Police say the shooting may have involved an AK-47."? I mean that it could have been ANY type of firearm, so why single the AK-47 out? Agenda?

Carrick High School Frankly and honestly, I'm amazed this school has gone this long without something like this happening in or around it, and no, I'm not being facetious.

Looks like a deal where students are not allowed to bring anything to school that they can defend themselves with, so it make them a target for off campus thugs.

Pittsburgh and Allegheny County have been run almost entirely by the Democratic party for at least 5 decades.
This is a case of politians and police tolerating a certain level of violence and criminality to provide justification for their failed policies. This then allows them to call for more "gun control" and scream for more money to "solve the crime problem". (see Mayor Street- Philadelphia)
The police know who and where but either refuse or are instructed not to do anything.
OR, they are all completely incompetent. Duh?

Wow, this has turned into a mega-thread since yesterday. I haven't read all posts, but I'll put in my 2 cents since I am familiar with a lot of what is being discussed.
Firstly, I don't believe the police were at the scene, but, at or called to the school to check out the car. Conflicting media reports.
The shootee and his "pals" were VERY bad seeds, junior thugs. keith watts' enemies shot up the special school bus that was delivering him home last month. Anyone near this punk was in danger. Carrick was a decent neighborhood, now "For Sale" signs all over. St. Clair Village (notorious housing project, predominately black) and Beltzhoover(predominately black) are in Carrick school district and drug wars are the cause of the violence. City of Pittsburgh (state or federal decree?) has been mainstreaming Section 8 housing into Carrick and surrounding areas so as not to "segregate" them from better neighborhoods. It's had the expected effect. Crime and violence into decent areas with flight by those who can. Pittsburgh has a high murder rate for it's size. Mostly black on black with a very high black on white violence/murder rate. And it's called a racist city. How right they are.
watts was a 16 yr. old freshman who got arrested last month driving a stolen car and possessing heroin. His father was a drug dealer killed on the streets.
They don't know if an ak47 was used. They know it was 7.62x39. I can think of 7 rifles (SKS is a very different rifle than the AK, but shoots 7.62x39), off the top of my head, that fire that round. The Ak47 comes in semi-auto only, perfectly legal in PA or select fire (full auto and semi), also legal in PA, if you do the dance and have the cash. The weapon used was probably a semi or an illegally converted full auto. IT IS AGAINST THE LAW TO MURDER ANYONE WITH EITHER. Banning law abiding citizens from owning them will not stop criminals from using them. It just means we will be outgunned.
