I've heard that these eruptions can heat up the local ocean water and change the weather patterns, although I'm not sure what those changes would be. It's like a mini El Nino I guess.
Did I miss something? How deep is it underwater?

With this group I thought I was going to get the "all the way at the bottom" answer.
I'm at least glad to know the Navy is still listening ....
To try to figure out what's going on nearly two miles below the sea surface, the scientists will lower instruments into the water to collect samples and measure temperature, salinity and the chemicals and particles given off by underwater eruptions.
That information was not authorized for release. A special prosecuter has been requested to get indictments from the grand jury.
Adm. Sandecker is on the case...
Can underwater volcanoes be explosive?
