I am so sorry to learn of the passing of Dix. I never had the pleasure of meeting him. Much like I felt when ChiefNegotiator passed, I feel cheated for not getting to know them.

May the Lord to comfort all who mourn his passing. God bless.

(That's why he always had so many of us pretty girls around him in all the pictures.)

He was the kind of man with whom I'd trust my car, my dog, my house, my gun, and my kids if I had any. (But not my beer.)

Really good friends are hard to find. I'm very sorry you lost such a good one.

I don't know how I missed the previous threads/post re Dix. This is the first I have known.

All of my prayers for Dix's family, loved ones and all of his friends. While I never personally met Dix, we have interacted here at FReeRepublic thru these several years.(Class of 98) I've always enjoyed him and will miss his presence.

I know. I did meet ChiefNegotiator once at the George R. Brown Convention right before GW's first election. Laura Bush spoke to the assembly; armed black panthers protested outside. What a day...

"This newspaper does not have enough pages to list his many friends, but they know who they are."

This line made me chuckle.

What a great obit - - that sounds like something Dix wrote himself.

I saw the obituary in the paper this morning. It was a great tribute.

I can't get it to load from the link right now, though. We must have overloaded the page.

Dixson, Douglas Chote
DOUGLAS CHOTE DIXSON passed away on Friday morning, May 6, 2005. He died peacefully at home, his Steel Street residence for many years, under the care of wonderful sitters, Tanya and Judy, and hospice health-care providers. Doug enjoyed many years of success as a Realtor. He enjoyed fishing, cooking, and hanging out with his "Free Republic" buddies. As a self-defined conservative, he enjoyed teasing his liberal-minded friends, but always respected their points of view. His death occurred the day before his 58th birthday. Predeceased by his parents, Rae and Richard Dixson. Survived by his son, Douglas Jr., sister and her husband, Deborah and Richard Schnell; niece Nanette Roberts and son Adam. Memorial service at Hyde Park Funeral Home on Tuesday May 10 at 1:00PM, followed by a celebration of Doug's life at his favorite hangout, Catbirds on Westheimer. Family-only burial services will be in Fort Worth, Texas. This newspaper does not have enough pages to list his many friends, but they know who they are.
Published in the Houston Chronicle on 5/8/2005.

The Chronicle hates us.

Dix hated the Chronicle.

It works!

God speed Dix, wishing you endless days of fishing, shooting, and light hearted political banter with the liberals (I'm assuming a few made it to Heaven). I loved ya Doug! Give the Gipper a big hug for me." AV (muuwwahhh)
