I have always looked at it as a parable, which makes sense, since Jesus often used parables to get his points across.
The passage says to me that humans are intellectually above the other animals. Than means they may no longer live in peaceful ignorant bliss as the animals do. It is our blessing to be able to reason and ponder our existance. It is our curse that we experience a more intense pain, multiplied by our emotional reaction to it. Also, we realize that we will die, which is a torturous thought. Other animals do not think in the way that we do. Hence, they remain in the "Garden of Eden," while we are cast out into the world. I think this is what the story of creation was meant to tell us, not that there was actually a specific Adam and Eve.

Wow, what profound reasoning we get from the evolatria camp. I know I can trust them on matters of science because they are so insightful on issues I do understand. /eye rolling who do you think you are fooling sarcasm

>>>Isa 40:22 [It is] he that sitteth upon the CIRCLE of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof [are] as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:
Apparently Isaiah was a bit confused.
Isaiah 11:12
12 And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH. (KJV)
John also notes the flatness of the Earth.
Revelation 7:1
1 And after these things I saw four angels standing on FOUR CORNERS OF THE EARTH, holding the four winds of the earth, that the wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea, nor on any tree. (KJV)

The Romans, the Catholic Church, everyone spoke of the "circle of Earth", but they didn´t mean a globe, they thought of a flat-earth with a round border.

I actually saw the black preacher on TV telling this story - 20 years ago - It's stunning in it's simplicity.
I'd bet a rather large amount of money the story was made up, too, that there was no conversation with a "noted biologist."

I addressed this garbage the last time someone directed me to the link where all of that is hosted.
Let's see just one of the many places where the author goes wrong:
Time, space, and matter are either eternal or self-created.
Wrong. Evolution makes absolutely no statement of this nature. Evolution does not address the scope of time and space and it does not address the ultimate origin of matter.
The author has either never studied evolution or he is a liar.

If evolution is true, then there is no objective standard to follow at any time.
Another lie. Why do creationists try to push their agenda with lies? Why are so many creationists shameless liars?

Just because they get all their information from a book that was written 2000 years ago, doesn't make them liars.
Don't try denying the validity of the book, From this forum I've found out that the bible is factual because it can't be proved to be false, and because it's so inconsistent that it can't possible be false, it can only be true. CS lewis said so!

"2000 years? Are you saying it only took 2000 years to build up the rock layers we see between fossils? "No, many of the layers and fossils are from the flood. But there would have been an era before the flood as well. Then the flood. Then the time since the flood.
The flood itself would have buried things in sort of an order. The deepest dwelling creatures would have been buried first. Followed by progressively higher habitats. Mud slides and turbidites would have occurred occasionally, probably throughout the year long event.
See the section on varves
Geology and the deluge
"You show me a dinosaur fossil in the same geological layer as a human fossil and that would go a long way to disproving evolution. "
I wish I could do that. But there are some evidences, that man walked with dinosarus, but they are all weak and sometimes uncorraborated. They include the mention in the Bible of a creature with a tail like a cedar tree, various culture's mention of dragons (the word dinosaur was unknown), a set of tracks in Turkmenstein (uncollaborated), drawings on Peruvian pottery. And sometimes like the Mexican dinosaur figurines mentioned at the end of the first article, they turn out to be frauds. See the following link.
Where are the human fossils?

So .. you're calling the preacher a LIAR ..??
Obviously, you don't want to believe anything in the Bible could trump the secular scientist! Unfortunately for you, a lot of very noted scientiests BELIEVE THERE IS A GOD - a supreme being!

No, the fact that they lie about what evolution states makes them liars.

Oh, for crying out loud. He's expressing belief that the story of an unnamed biologist conversing with an unnamed preacher is, in all likelyhood, an urban legend. That's hardly the same as rejecting Christianity.

And .. he cannot speak for himself - and how do YOU know what he was thinking ..??
And .. don't try to double-team my posts.
I know it's not an "urban legend" - whether you believe that or not - doesn't matter to me.

Oh, you personally witnessed the event? Or you've seen videotape evidence?
whether you believe that or not - doesn't matter to me.
So why are you screeching and ranting just because someone has expressed doubt?

"The Romans, the Catholic Church, everyone spoke of the "circle of Earth", but they didn´t mean a globe, they thought of a flat-earth with a round border."That's not true. The church has always held that the earth was a sphere. It was 18th century evolutionists that accused the church of having a flat earth mentality. Here's the history of the flat earth claim...
Who invented the flat earth?
