'What is science'?

I think I can answer this. Scientists do not control the definition of the word 'science'.

Scientists are overwhelmingly paid by government grants, not student tuition money.

Therefore, the government ultimately decides how scientists practice 'science', and thus, control the meaning of the word 'science'.

Now, lemme think, what political party treats gov't as a religion .... oh, yes; ... godless, atheistic, liberal democrats.

'Science', then, is what liberal democrats use to spread godlessness, and to confuse ordinary citizens, who can't afford a private education, and so thereby prevent them from voting Republican.

(And I went to publik sckool!!)

I am an educated conservative Catholic, and while I respect those who support Creationism, I personally think it's stupid. I believe the science. Period. Freepers fight constantly over this issue, so my statement will solve nothing. But I know that I am right on this one issue. And Jesus is in my corner!

You got that right - every time I see the word "scientist" (and I am an electrical engineer, so have done plenty of studying of science), my antennae activate. These are guys who are on the government dole, so what else are they going to conclude?

I am trying to be as polite as I can, under the circumstances. But there are a lot of creationists that revel in their in-you-face tactics. So if this offends someone that does not subscribe to the in-your-face tactics, I apologize. My intent is not to talk down to anyone. But I have two degrees and don't apologize to a single person for my higher education. Therefore, it's not right for me to sit by and let uneducated, ill-formed opinions that crumble under the most minor of scrutiny prevail for lack of being challenged. To wit:

To the dismay of creationists, evolution will survive completely intact because there are educated and intelligent people in this world. The fact is that there is no real attack on the facts of evolution. Those facts stand very well on their own merit, thank you very much. However there is a political and religious attack on evolution that preys on people's ignorance. Knowledge and reason gained by higher education of great minds always wins in the long run. Our country as well as the world is a better place because of it. Evolution will ultimately emerge just fine in spite of attempts to shove the religion of creationism down childrens' throats.

The entire creationism movement and the push to offer a completely bogus "alternate theory" to evolution to school kids conjures up images of the Church of England's practices that drove the Pilgrims to the New World.

Scientists are overwhelmingly paid by government grants, not student tuition money.

Actually scientists are overwhelmingly paid for by private companies.

Also, for the most part, what's taught in public school is not science. That's what makes the multi-billion dollar market for creationist and ID literature possible.
