The great American historian George Bancroft stated, "He that will not honor the memory, and respect the influence of Calvin, knows but little of the origin of American liberty." The famous German historian, Leopold von Ranke, wrote, "John Calvin was the virtual founder of America." John Adams, the second president of the United States, wrote: "Let not Geneva be forgotten or despised. Religious liberty owes it most respect."
Cordially,
Cordially,
"Dark Skies" put me in mind of an old soap named, I believe, "Dark Shadows" and featuring werewolves, vampires, ghouls, and the like, and their day-to-day struggles to survive and thrive. My dark side could not resist the temptation to use "optimist" in connection with "dark". Sorry, I didn't have any intent to hurt behind the remark. I apologize if I offended you.
I would say Islam is balkanized, not necessarily Protestantized. The Protestant movement was also about breaking autocratic church authority as well. Islam hasn't gotten there, yet.
Your a fine man! No harm taken. I remember that old soap and used to watch it from time to time. My name was definitely chosen for darker reasons though not related to that soap.
If you check the websites for most Protestant Church groups, they include extensive lists of rules aside and apart from the Bible. That seems to me to be a sort of church autocracy. News reports frequently feature stories about one church group or another wrangling over ordination or marriage of homosexuals. Of course, violence isn't used to enforce the decisions.
