If the children are in a dangerous situation, then it should be addressed by government officials, I'd agree with that. But, it shouldn't reflect on all homeschooling families in Germany. I'd have to look into this particular situation more. I find it hard to believe that the HSLDA would defend any family who is being abusive. They do not even claim to represent all homeschooling families in America - they don't give any help to riff-raff who have broken the law. T^here is always the chance that the article you've read is biased to get people to oppose the family. Sometimes that can happen, too.

I think parents have the right to educate their children to a certain degree but don't own their children. Parents alone cannot give their child what the society can as a whole. A child has to hear different opinions than what it hears at home to built a real own opinion and personality. Otherwise I can't imagine how one shall be able to emancipate from home.

How true. However, the parent is the dominant figure in a child's life and shaper of his/her beliefs.
