This time last year, the entire state of Montana was shut down. The only vehicles on the highways were the snowplow operators, some putting in eighteen hour shifts. Many counties pulled the plows off the highways because the snow was coming down faster than the plows could clear off. I read an article at the time in the paper of one snowplow operator say that he could actually see the snow drifts forming in his rear view mirror.

I'm not sure what a "Smart Car" is or why it's bad in the snow.
I'm guessing it has computerized features that respond in ways that are inappropriate for those conditions.

SUV's (Silly Useless Vehicles) (rolls eyes)--->@¿@ That's no place for SUV's. Try military 6x6's & the all-iron, 20-40 year-old 5,000lb.+ REAL 4x4's. Properly equipped, from -45º to 125º, stocked with cold weather supplies in the winter and warm weather supplies in the summer, they're the right tool for the job. I hope the lesson of a similar event in Colorado a few years back has been retained by someone. The Big Rig drivers supplied food from, & shelter in, their rigs for groups of people for up to three days. When all else fails its the anachronists who bring the others in from the cold/floods/disasters. (NOTE: Ex-commercial driver, retired firedude & one who has done MUCH volunteer work for the Red Cross & fire/EMS).
On days like this, it's best to just stay home.

I'm from north MI and learned to drive in the snow in an old 2wd pickup with bald bias-ply tires. Been stuck once. But I always see 4wd and awd vehicles stuck or wrecked in the snow. Sure you can go real fast with 4wd...now STOP!!
Yeah, same with heat and hurricanes.

I drove a 2wd beater of a pickup with bald tires in high school. It did pull a few 4wd pickups out of snowbanks in it's time.
