In the 19th century if you got a hotel room, you paid one price if you shared a bed, another higher price for a single bed with other men in the same room, and an even higher price for a single room. Sharing a bed was done of necessity and meant nothing more than you were too poor to afford separate beds. It had nothing to do with sexuality.
