I will be staying at the Crystal City Gateway Marriott. . .anyone want to share a taxi?
To: vivabushchick
We could go on Friday and I could call my congressman...Well, Nick smith is leaving and that leaves Dingel. yuck. Maybe I can find one from another congressional district. I have 2, maybe more, I haven't found out yet how many are going....That would be great if we could get a group together and do it. I don't know how to do a Vanity, maybe you could start a thread and see if anyone else is interested or has "ties". I know our state rep very well. His sec is my best friend but I don't think he can do it...Maybe it should be posted in the Inaugural Ball info. What cya think?

Ok after reading Kristinn's post we'll have to ditch the plans to tour the WH. It would have been nice but I can understand the precautions they must have to take. MaYBE we can tour some other places while we're there.

Tours of the White House are available for groups of ten or more. Tour requests must be submitted through one's member of Congress at least one month and up to six months in advance. The tours are self-guided and will run from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday. For more information, call the White House Visitors Center at 202-456-7041 or visit www.whitehouse.gov
2 here would be interested in a Saturday Tour. I'd like to get the word out if there are others interested. Thanks for the info, vivabushchick.
Amy, what do you think? If there is a group that needs a few more people, do you think we should consider it? I have been on a tour of the White House many years ago, but I wouldn't mind going again if you are interested.
To: queenkathy
Well that takes care of that!

It has been several years since I took a tour.
I wouldn't mind going again. Several years ago, we stood in line for 3 hours to get in. Since they are only taking groups we should not be that problem.

Forget the taxi. Crystal City has two Metro (subway) stops (Crystal City and Pentagon City). If you are flying in to Baltimore airport you can get to Crystal City by train and Metro. Crystal City is only one Metro stop away from Reagan National Airport.
You can get to most of the places in DC that you'll want to go to by Metro. It is pretty clean and safe.
[They try so hard to keep it clean that the Metro cops have been know to haul off a 13-year-old girl in handcuffs because she was eating "American" fries, and recently arrested a woman for stuffing a candy bar in her mouth on the escalator.]

Just a taste of some of the fun times you can expect at the W2 Ball...
Yes, that guy in the white rhinestone disco suit is Billvis!
Maybe an FR old-timer can tell you the story of Billvis at the 2001 ball...

Thanks. I know DC quite well. I find the metro is fine for normal scooting around, but most times I take a taxi in/out of the District. And, in this case, wearing a Tux and all, I don't relish walking from the hotel to the metro (even though access is from inside). And even though the metro will be open late, I would like a taxi for the return trip.
Perhaps I should have been more clear. . .I am getting a taxi from/to the Crystal City Gateway Marriott (my treat). . .riders welcome.

According to the announcement,
Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Even though I'm over 18, I have to bring Mrs. Pete's Wife along just to keep me in line.
Our son is going to keep Mrs. Pete's Wife in line.
