Thanks for posting this story. What journalistic trash -- so Fallujah is "a potent symbol of Arab nationalism" -- kidnapping and killing humanitarian aid workers, beheading people, making 10-year-old girls wives. This is not Arab nationalism as much as it is terrorism.

Before the assault on Fallujah, U.S. officials described the city as a den of foreign terrorists, but its top commanders were an electrician and a mosque preacher - both natives of the community and now on the run from American forces.

Figure heads most likely. The one guy sounds more like just a cheerleader anyway. I'll take the US Marines word that they've found lots of dead and injured foreign Muj in Fallujah.

"transforming Fallujah from a sleepy Euphrates River backwater "

Fallujah was never that. Fallujah was a haven for every thug and smuggler, It's sits on the crossroads of all main smuggling routes. It hardly existed 35 years ago, Saddam made it was it is today. By wiping out this terrorist haven, and closing down it as a main smuggling stopover, the "city" no longer has an industry.

amazing how well connected to the enemy, the writers for this free newsletter published in a backwater little new england town are!!...

"amazing... connected... (?)"

The Concord Monitor is a daily newspaper, not much different than your own home town daily. The author of the article is an "associated press" writer. Nothing particularly "connected" here. Nothing amazing.
