To quote Caligula (in one of his more lucid moments), "Oderint duum metuant"

Half of America (the half that voted for George W. Bush) has been pitted against the other half of America, and virtually the entire rest of the world.

No wonder I'm tired.

last I checked only 1/4 of the population cared enough to vote for Kerry. 60 million + (with current voting totals) voted for Bush. The remaining bits that did not bother to vote.

This nation is not divided. The left represented by Kerry are a shrinking minority.

That's something that has always irritated me a bit. "Half the country believes "this", when in reality, half the country doesn't even care enough to vote!!

Haven't scrolled down, so this might have been answered already, but Gibson had a segment on a tv show last night. I missed it, though, so was interested to hear what other thought who'd seen it.

I had to tape it. My granddaughters are here, watching the Disney Channel.

Has anyone read his book?

Yes, it was interesting. I was shocked to see how badly we are losing the PR campaign across the globe.

...."why is it that everyone in the world wants to come to America"?

Free food, housing, schooling, medical care.

Hell, if I lived in some turd world rat-hole, I'd be making a bee-line for here too.

I saw the program last night and thought that it was lacking. I only found the last ten minutes (the part that dealt with our own pro liberty media campaign to counter their's) of any interest. Was it just me or when they talked about state run media monopolies, did anyone else draw any parallel to the American public schooling monopoly?

After a busy weekend, I just couldn't stay up for Gibson's program. I hate I missed it and appreciate this thread. Last Thursday, when I saw an promotion about the special, I emailed John Gibson the following:

Dear Mr. Gibson,

I look forward to your upcoming special referenced above and would like to share my sentiments on the growing hate of our country.

In my opinion, the number one reason for this hate is the American media. (Not you sir, you are a champion for our cause and deliciously wicked when addressing the French.) The majority of media types are liberal, and without a platform to stand on, they simply attack our President. These relentless, unfounded attacks are the impetus of this hate.

Consider the "sixteen words in the State of the Union Address" fiasco. For months on end the media literally called President Bush a liar and this "news" spread around the world. A simple Google search will produce hundreds of thousands of hits on this supposed misstatement. We know now that British intelligence did indeed tell us that Saddam was attempted to procure yellowcake in Niger. We would be hard pressed to find a single retraction with a second search.

Next we have the Abu Ghraib prison scandal. You know that with any group of people, one will find some bad apples. Our military was investigating the problem before the story broke, but the media went with it anyway. Not just a report or two, but endless front page screeds condemning our military as a whole. Without going into the merits of tactics to produce possible life saving information from combatants, this demonization by the American media again contributed to the downfall of America's image.

I could go on, but am certain you get the message. So what do we do to stop this vilification of our country? Sure, I could get fifty folks with similar opinions to write to papers or call into news programs. But that will not stop this inundation of partisan politics in the media. The only recourse I can see is an exposure of these anti-American media tactics by other high profile media personalities as yourself. The liberal mainstream has fueled this misconception and the sensible media is the only entity who can combat it.

I write to you in the hopes that true cause of this aspect of our nation's image is exposed.

Thank you sir, for taking the time to read my rant.

Sincerely,
xxxxxx

"France isn't fooling anybody, except perhaps itself."

Heh... Chirac isn't fooling anyone in France I hope... his latest "kinder, gentler" US-bashing is his attempt to fire up voters, because the Ivory Coast scandal may bring down his gov't. If that happens, he winds up in prison.

Since the EU members have no borders any longer, may I suggest Spandau? That is where he belongs.
