When you compare what American teens have against what most of the world's people have, they do just fine

Oh, I see, so now you are comparing American young people to those in third world countries?

They have good clothes, usually a decent car to drive, they get an education

So these are the luxury items your referring to. Thanks for clearing that up.

Could someone, maybe you NJ_gent explain to me what is going on with this apparent love-affair Bush has with Mexico? It is amazing to me that our president could witness such horrific devastation at the hands of men who could easily pass as Mexican immigrants (legal or no) and then go and make our borders more porous. This is not the political capital I expected Bush to spend.

"Could someone, maybe you NJ_gent explain to me what is going on with this apparent love-affair Bush has with Mexico?"

I have and continue to point the finger at Rove on this issue. I believe Rove has convinced the President that it is in our interests as a nation (economically, no doubt) to have cheap labor pouring into this country from Mexico. I can only speculate about Rove's reasons here. I would guess he has some rather large companies who depend on cheap, illegal labor whispering in his ear.

"It is amazing to me that our president could witness such horrific devastation at the hands of men who could easily pass as Mexican immigrants (legal or no) and then go and make our borders more porous."

I know exactly what you mean. Personally, I'd rather see Walmart take a loss on the year than see Walmarts start exploding at random while packed with shoppers because we've allowed terrorists to pour across the borders alongside illegals. September 11th was shocking and horrible, but anyone who lived in the DC area understands that such extraordinary attacks aren't necessary. A couple guys with a rifle can scare more people for a longer period of time. When shopping malls and nightclubs start exploding at random, we'll see people as frightened of coming out of their homes as we saw in DC during the sniper shootings. Children literally begged their parents not to go to work, fearing that they'd never see them alive again. My nephew still sometimes has nightmares.

"This is not the political capital I expected Bush to spend."

Between this, the debt, spending, etc, you're going to see a lot of political capital blown on a lot of things you don't like. Our choices this time around were center or way left of center. Personally, I voted for David A. Keene, a man I know would be running things far differently.

Thanks for your infomative reply. Savage has also helped very much in understanding what might be going on with the less than conservative Bush.
