Not a slap in the face from this American. I'm voting for President Bush!

DFU, this forum first attracted me because of the high respect paid here to military members and vets. That respect is something we EARNED, both by our skills AND by the integrity and honor with which we wield them. Part of that honor you all expect (and have every right to) is to continue to honor our Constitutional mandates...that is, we do not pick and choose the President for the country. YOU do that.

Then, we follow that man's orders, insofar as they are legal.

To do so, regardless of whom he is, and to stay alive in the process, we HAVE to have at least SOME experienced, honorable people around to carry the torch in dark times. How do you think I got through X42's term, if not for those who taught ME about those things, and my responsibilities to pass them on to others?

Remember, on 9-11, most actively serving military had joined during Clinton's terms. Think they did a bad job because of that?

All I can say is, take care whom you send to command us. After all is said and done, THAT is the responsibility which falls on YOUR shoulders.

Druing the Clinton years the only reason I did not get out of the military was that I was close to earning my retirement...I had 23 years and was going for 3o so gutted it out.

If I were in today and was not close to retirement I would get out....

I'm glad my husband retires in a year. If he had longer to go and Kerry gets in I doubt he'd stay.

that is to say I would get out if Kerry were elected. If Bush wins I would stay in.

I'm glad that I've retired from the military, for I would be facing the same hard decision as those serving on active duty now. As one that served during Vietnam, I couldn't respect a Commander-in-Chief that did what Kerry has done. I would definitely not encourage anyone to join the military under a Kerry administration. He is not "fit for command" as one group puts it. He is certainly not worthy of respect.

Well stated and we don't disagree. I hope those serving will stay in. But I don't see it happening and it greatly worries me. Let's hope the voters do what is right.

"It boggles the mind to think that America could be so fooled and be so foolish."

America is not fooled or foolish. Kerry CAN'T win...unless he cheats.

Which he will.

So will Soros et al.

Bet your life on it. These are the self reverential we are dealing with here.

Military rightsizing has been happening since the end of the cold war. Joint Chiefs Of Staff vision 2020 is the movement of our military into the future. However, the downsizing portion is completed. If we were to lose attrition and the ability to maitain end strength goals because of a Kerry administration which is very highly likely it leaves two possible scenarios. 1. Congress would implement a draft to maintain end strenth. or 2. Kerry would appeal to congress to allow our Military to be used at the direction of the United Nations. Justification would be the one world military theme. Either of these is bad but the UN managed military has the potential to be the end of the US as we know it.
Bottom Line this is like no other time in history and Kerry is like no other candidate in history. Be very afraid of the outcome.

I will be much the same as when Carter and Clinton became Commanders in Chief. I was in for Carter but retired before Clinton. We generally sat back to see what would happen. I decided it was another case of “this too shall pass” and stayed in. While retention did become a minor problem with Clinton, it was offset by his slashing the manpower authorization.
Hopefully we will still have a Republican Congress.

I have been reading all the posts and I agree with every one of them, yours especially. Two things though, [if the American people are too stupid to elect the man who would protect them, they probably deserve whatever misfortune befalls them] it would befall us as well.

Secondly, I've already sent my word to the RNC and I think all of us should, that there are a couple of things we need to start doing right after the election is declared, for either one.

1. The Republican party needs to start educating on what we stand for virus the dims, because I think a LOT of people don't really know.

2. The Republican party needs to push in every state for real election reform that would put an end to all this election fraud possibilities that include proper registration, ID's required at polling places, even finger print at polling places, etc.

During clinton's years, one young soldier refused to wear the UN's blue beret and shoulder patch. He was found guilty of disobeying a lawful order and given a dishonorable discharge. All appeals failed. I supported his campaign to have the DD overturned, but lost touch with all the business moves I was making.

But Yes, it did happen, and it could again, precedence has been made.

"....However, our country is larger than the leader that sits in the White House...."

Your reply equates Kerry with all of the others elected president. In no way manner shape or form has it EVER been possible for so flawed and demonstrably evil a man to reach the office.

A Kerry simply has never been possible in the America that once was and which still exists...in your mind as you reply demonstrates.

Frankly I think he's actually at least 10 points behind the president.

But he's gonna cheat.

Me too. I did six years and I got out during the Klinton purge (1994). Pissed me off. Klinton did everything he could to gut the military and I didn't think the senior leaders were doing near enough to take care of their people (bunch of lousy careerists as far as I'm concerned; not a one of them quit/retired in protest, per Bill Gertz).

I got into the Navy during the Reagan administration and I got out during Klinton's. The degradation during that six years was downright frightening.
