Am I missing something?

Not missing a thing, LOL! The only thing I'd add is that it's only known the position Jacqueline served in at the French embassy was sometimes used as a cover for intelligence purposes, we don't have direct verification she was actually a French intelligence agent. However, the circumstantial evidence is enough to warrant an inquiry, IMO. And after Jacqueline divorced Joseph she definitely was hired by an employer, Omar Bongo, who had been an asset of French intelligence and of a French oil company that was an asset of French intelligence, TotalFinaElf. TotalFinaElf in turn had interlocking management with the French-controlled uranium mining consortium Wilson was sent to investigate in Niger. Proof of espionage or other wrongdoing, no--at least not in itself. Enough to question whether there was a conflict of interests in sending the ex-husband of a lobbyist for an employer linked to TotalFinaElf to investigate a TotalFinaElf-managed consortium suspected of selling uranium to Iraq, yes.

The guy that was mentioned was a Middle Easterner who arranged and financed the congressional trip to the Middle East. I have trouble enough with European names, Middle Eastern names never stick in my head. But he was one of the few Americans named in the Volker Report.

I'm still getting used to Middle Eastern names myself :-) That would be Shakir Al-Khafaji, then:

Volcker 5.0 [Oil-for-Saddam]

Among the handful of Americans named by Mr. Volcker is Shakir Al-Khafaji (12 million barrels), a well-connected Detroit-area businessman who led a delegation of anti-war Congressional Democrats to Baghdad in September 2002 and who funded an anti-sanctions documentary produced by former weapons inspector Scott Ritter. Mr. Al-Khafaji's financial involvement with Saddam was first documented in these pages by our Robert Pollock in March 2004.

That's true about the Democrats and their hair. Also they shouldn't be trusted with our national security. They are the liars! What deceit!

What a bunch of money grubbing weasels! What hyprocrites! They put on a show for being anti-war and concerned about world peace! I wonder how the protestors feel that they are supporting big profit for Joe Wilson and his cronies.

What a joke! "No blood for Oil!" It's all about the money and not disturbing the cash cow with Saddam. They don't care if 2,000 soldiers died or 3,000 innocent civilians being murdered on 911. It's all about the money!

This whole thing reminds me of a spy novel but this is real! The Democrats are willing to sell out and make GWB into a scapegoat.

This is making me angry!

Wow. How did this old thread find new life?

I agree with your sentiments completely. Though my opinion of the democrats is even lower than yours.

Is it possible that Wilson and his wife were part of the same operation that created the Italian forgeries?

Yes?

I never thought that Wilson was part of the operation, but perhaps was privy to the fact that the documents had been created as a red herring. To think that Wilson was an actual player, is to give him way too much importance. The man is a giant, only in his own mind.

Remember that France controls the nuclear energy industry in Niger, Wilson had some pretty good contacts among the French, and all that was actually claimed was that Saddam had attempted to buy uranium from Niger, not that he had succeeded. The documents were intended to prove that Saddam had succeeded, followed by the disclosure that the documents were forged, with the ultimate hoped for result of discrediting the US and British intelligence and distracting from the indisputable fact that Saddam had indeed tried to buy yellow cake from Niger (the French in Niger).

Yes................. you may likely be correct......... he just walked into it......... took a well-paid trip.............. and voila!

But........... my opinion is is that he still had his "way" with his second wife.................and that WAY as is the WAY of the French government is/was to diminish or/and destroy the efforts of the Brits and the Americans going into the war!

Get it?

Thanks nopardons, that should keep me busy for a while ;)

I've read many articles where Joe Wilson insists he was always a Republican until President Bush was elected.

Why does he fail to mention the fact that in 1985-1986, he served in the offices of Senator Albert Gore and the House Majority Whip, Representative Thomas Foley, as an American Political Science Association Congressional Fellow.

You're very welcome. There are others, but there is always so much info in these threads, that I just pinged you to one. :-)

I think that we actually had nailed Joe with his DEM work, in other threads. But nice link, you posted.
