I do not think that anyone from the top seven nations on the security council can field a candidate for the UN Chief.

That is why true conservatives (standing by the Constitution) do not advocate "term limits".

I always love it when I'm told what "true conservatives" should think. The true conservatives in my area, including the chairman of the Texas Christian Coalition, told me I was nuts for opposing building a shopping center and class A office building, for a private developer, using public funds.

Could they (in theory) serve one term, be voted out or resign and then run for another term at a later time? Has that ever happened?

No president may serve more than two terms, consecutive or not.

Constitutional Amendment 22, ratified in 1951, states:

1. No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

If your question suggests that Bill Clinton might run for mayor or Governor of say, New York, I'm sure that the Republican's would welcome it. Bush could invite him to the White House as much as possible so the press could get pictures of him kissing the President's ring. Bush waving goodbye from the front steps might also provide a good shot.

Impeached, but not convicted, President Andrew Johnson served one year as Senator.

Taft became Chief Justice.

John Quincy Adams served in the House of Representatives for 17 years.
