I'll agree on contacting the ambulance. However, we had a brother who was a trained paramedic and I'll take his word that cold water and drunks do not mix.

Hasn't this college been given a lot of heat over hazing and alcohol abuse in the past few years?

Well, we can agree to...
Anyway, I've done the cold water torture and even had it done on me. The evidence of my eyes tells a different story.

You have a big mouth. I'd pay to see you say that to this kid's father. I would gladly do that - if this guy raised such a spineless loser, he's probably a loser himself. I'm sure I could take him out to the woodshed. Might even take a magic marker and write "loser" on his forehead.

Waah! Waah! Waah! Don't blame me if you were blackballed. There's always one in every crowd who treats ignorance like a virtue. #51

I used to live in MS for way too long. My opinion is that Ole MS greeks have been the downfall of that state. I had so many totally incompetent lawyers and CPAs that got their positions because of frat connections. Then those guys run for office...
I know plenty of great greeks, but I think there is something just weird about a system that teaches getting along with other men as its core.
And the women! God grief. The wrecked young ladies I've seen who didn't get into the "right" sororities, with their parents pushing them as if that were the pinnacle of their purpose. Ugh!
I think some of this is dying out, but I've had to deal with it for 30 years as an employer of young graduates and a contractor for professional services.
It has been my experience that (Southern) frat boys make terrible employees. They think they should be given some inexplicable special priveleges. And some of them are really surprised when they are fired for coming in late after an obvious bender.

You need help, son. You need to get over your fear of Personal Responsibility. And "son" - that's pretty funny. What a clown you are.

And "son" - that's pretty funny. What a clown you are. Why, are you a girl? I thought I'd picked up on a certain effeminate style, but I just attributed it to immaturity.

Opening weekend was marshy and steamy, but lots of fun! I will be there in about 13 hours, in barbarian garb. Xen's the most waterproof.

Wasn't rich. If someone had a sixer in his room, this wasn;t required. It was only for parties.
We had to come up with creative ways to finance our parties. We sold parking, burgers and beer on football games. We pooled money. Plus there were local bar-tending and security businesses that catered to our price range because they knew if they did a good job, the whole system would end up hiring them.
The nice thing was that when we had a party, we didn;t have to stress on our place getting trashed or our rooms getting ransacked.

I think that's an old breed. My chapter used to be the football house. But enough younguns got sick of those guys that they were invited to leave. I saw it happen in more than a few houses at my school.

You know, I deserve that. I lowered the bar and you followed me. I'm through here. You win.

I'm sure there are many which do worthwhile things, and the ones that do are long term assets to the country.

So, your criteria was "cool jock guys" and not status. In other words, you wouldn't have accepted an uncool, nerdy guy named Twinkie?

I'm surprised this does not happen more often. While personal responsibility is important, many 18 year old males believe they are bullet proof and it is just a dangerous age to be.

"We were a bunch of beer-swilling, prank-pulling, skirt-chasing yuksters."
I take exception to the notion that only "cool jock guys" can partake in these activities. As an uncool nerdy guy (though not named Twinkie) I partook in these activities. It's just the last one where they seem to have more success.

I stated that I hate the concept of snobby cliques. I do not hate any individual; although you are starting to get on Twinkie's nerves.

While personal responsibility is important imho it's like one of THE most important things.
many 18 year old males believe they are bullet proof
I think any guy who's still alive and not hurting believes they're bullet-proof. But I don't think that's the case here - this seems to be poor judgement on the part of the dead guy (probably just wanted to be one of the (living)guys).
and it is just a dangerous age to be.
College students shouldn't be considered "kids" - they've graduated hs, they've lived at least 18 years on this planet, many of their peers have to find real jobs, and they're in school. Oh yea, in one of the richest countries in the world.
