Someone should tell those losers about the wind storm we had here on Clinton's Innauguration Day. It was the size and strength of a small hurricane - worst storm in years here. How ironic - we got blown instead of Bubba.

The scientists said yesterday that they believe the seismic activity is being caused by pressure from a reservoir of molten rock a little more than a mile below the crater. That magma apparently rose from a depth of about 6 miles in 1998, but never reached the surface, said Jeff Wynn, the chief scientist at the survey's Cascade Volcano Observatory.

Since last week, scientists have also observed a slight northward movement -- about an inch and a half -- of the 925-foot-tall dome of hardened lava that grew inside the crater from 1980 to 1986.

Sir

Are you a Trained and Degreed Geologist?

Do you know the physical proximity of Rainier to St Helens?

Until I hear something from an authoritative source I will not allow your "speculation" to exacerbate an already tense situation...we have enough to deal with in the real world without pseudoscience creating more worries.

If a major Rainier event transpires, will we get the same level of help (commensurate with the proportion of death and property destruction) as Florida? Not that we deserve it, mind you...

I've been looking for this information. And since you posted this, I believe I'll be praying about it, too...

This is interesting, and I'd like to know the info for the dome at Yellowstone as well. A lot of geologists appear to be nervous about the activity there, according to Smithsonian Magazine. Activity there along with the Bakersfield quake, indicates activity along faults lateral to the San Andreas, along with the San Andreas itself.

But what would that mean if we're getting simultaneous activity along several fault lines lateral to a large, active fault?

What does the LON, SEP mean? Is that different locations around the mountain? If so, if you are making comparisons day to day will it make a difference as to which location you use?

I found the website and just looked at 9/30, and it is WAY more active than 9/29!

sir.
I am NOT a trained geologist.
but they had reports from the geological survey people last night on KOIN tv. According to them, Rainier is definitely acting up and their are growing concerns that it may not just be a sympathetic vibration. There may be something going on along the entire plate.

so that "speculation" you are concerned about, is actually usgs 'speculation' based.

hopes are that this is largely a jello shake reflection by mt. rainier echoing the st. helens event. but that is not assured at this time. but since they are not timed to each other's frequency on a predictable level, it may be an entire plate movement along the cascades.

Mt. Hood is also shaking, and it was not doing the same level yesterday morning. not like it is now.

We are very likely on the verge of an event.
speculation or not... it is good to be prepared in a volcanic zone.

thanks.
