Well, a friend of mine with Riverside Sheriff got bit by one, and spent two nights in the hospital. He said it was very painful and his leg swelled up bad. He was at home moving some wood around, and it crawled up his pant leg. I swear, I rather wrestle an anaconda than deal with those things.
Geocache - An object, usually a container, that holds at least a log book. Sometimes it's an ammo box, sometimes it's a piece of tupperware, or sometimes it's just a film canister or a hide-a-key. The GPS coordinates are entered into a website (geocaching.com) and players will get these coordinates, enter it into their handheld GPS systems, and travel to the coordinates to mark their visit in the log book and then record their visit online as well.
Objects may be in the caches, and the tradition is to trade if you desire anything (or some people just leave items.) A special type of object is called a travel bug, which travels from cache to cache, sometimes following a particular path or set of rules. (There are also geocoins and other forms of hitchhikers.)
Best description of it is in this pdf file... http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/brochure.html
What I don't understand is why the clash of details. CNN's version of this story says it's all fixed shipshape, okey dokey. FAA radio outage halts flights in West (About 800 planes were in the air at time of breakdown)
Yes we have little scorpions. I saw one while out doing some tumbleweed management early one morning. And it was the last time I wore open-toe sandals out there!
Really. Wow. Well maybe those dudes who get bitten all the time have developed a tolerance. :) (or maybe my friend's a big fat liar!)
I'm in the departure path of Oakland and SF.
No planes leaving.
I've noticed their webs too. They seem haphazard, not formed like a typical spiderweb.
I haven't checked (or fished for) geocaches in awhile. Last one I did was up along Tule Ridge, in the mountains around Bouquet & San Francisquito.. that area. Pretty hairy roads up there.
And who might *that* fine fellow be?
Very much so. They're ugly. They make triangular criss-cross, irregular webs, and they're usually low to the ground. So when I see one during the day (and spider lady is hiding), I make a mental note & go out there and GET 'ER after dark. I use spider spray.. they make a black widow hotshot. Spiders abound up here.
I take it the plane situation has been resolved.
Articles indicate that all the traffic has been handed-off, and flights are running again, but there's a dispute about whether the radio comms are actually "fixed."
Thanx
Seems everyones gone to bed, without a conclusion to the problem.
I'm not telling.
He's mine. All mine.
I'll have to have Brad talk to you about those webs...that boy has the whole thing downpat. :)
Oh, and ya have FRmail.
WHOO HOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Do you have the name of the manufacturer??? THAT sounds like a mighty handy thing to have.
How about those wolf spiders in the fall? Aren't THEY fun? You go outside and there's nothing. An hour later, same spot, you're walking thru what could be the web in a haunted house.
Mail call.
He's mine. All mine.
He's eye candy, that's what he is! lol! (I have one, too!) :-)
Ok, east approach to LAX filling up nicely, got a line of planes going off into the distance. Airliners.net reported the last of the diverted planes out of DC are in the air, so, it appears that they've at least got the workaround going. I don't have an update on the radio status, my guess is that they want to catch up and then worry about making sure that it all works.
Well thanks for the info, seems everything worked out good.
Oh I bet some people over at AF Plant 42 aren't sleepin' tonight! ;-)
