I think we may have the source!
Mary Mapes, producer for Rather, has been held in contempt twice for failing to provide material from interview.

At this time, however, CBS News states with absolute certainty that the ability to produce the "th" superscript mentioned in reports about the documents did exist on typewriters as early as 1968, and in fact is in President Bush's official military records released by the White House.LOL......that is pathetic.
The "th" wasn't even what drew everybody's attention to the documents.
I have seen ONE document that the DUers claim has the "th" on it; it looks like a smear to me.

CBS News states with absolute certainty that the ability to produce the "th" superscript mentioned in reports about the documents did exist on typewriters as early as 1968, and in fact is in President Bush's official military records released by the White House. This and other issues surrounding the authenticity of the documents and more on this developing story will be reported on tonight on THE CBS EVENING NEWS WITH DAN RATHER. I was afraid of hanging everything on the "th". We need to attack this in depth.
The MS centering algorithm is shown in the 4 may 72 document. It it centered PERFECTLY, which was virtually impossible to do in 1972.
The "th" is ONLY ONE problem with the documents.

Doubt that Rather will address the cost of such of typewriter and whether or not an Air National Guard unit would have one.
Doubt that he will address the kerneling or spacing.
Doubt he will address that the general that Killian was "worried" about pressure from was gone at the time the "memo" was written.
In other words, this is Rather's own CYA, Bigtime.

I can hear the dem spin now. It was Rove who orchestrated the Abu Garib and memo scandals to distract the public from the real failures in Iraq and the economy. It's always our fault, don't you get it. Just suck it up, chief.
