Together they open a long-buried trunk, examining the contents—photographs, champagne bottles, letters, home movies, audiotapes of phone conversations

Is it normal for people to have audiotapes of phone conversations?

Or was Mommy there taping her hubby when he called so she could use bits and pieces of the conversations for her political activism buddies or to provide info to handlers?

"Oh, the bigger point what is it with Dem women who WEAR their dead husbands names while they are (or in this case appear to be) married to someone else?"

I also have found that to be very odd, but I've only seen it addressed over at DU, and the poster was critical. I'm sure it is because Heinz, a dirty republican, is in her name, and not because her use of his name violated etiquette or good taste.

It may have been brought up here, but up until your post, I haven't seen it.

She wasn't in Vietnam, she wasn't on the boat with Kerry, therefore, according to Lanny Davis, she has NO right to speak..

A tip o' the debunkin' hat to aspiring CPO Belisaurius:

The View From the Boat Judith Droz Keyes (NY Times, late shift, 8/26/2004)

To: conservative in nyc

The first time Judith Droz Keyes attended a Democratic National Convention it was 1968, and she never made it inside.

She was among the throngs of anti-war protesters who were pummeled outside the convention by the Chicago police. An officer on a horse struck Keyes on the head with his baton, she says. At the time, her husband was serving in Vietnam as a swift boat officer, in the same squadron as John Kerry. Eight months later, Keyes' husband died, spurring her to become more active in the anti-war movement. That's where she met Kerry.

Where's the letter? Given her background, why should I believe her?

Does anyone know where it has been said that this woman's husband didn't earn his medal?

The only mention of him in "Unfit for Command" (page 65) describes him as "a Swift Boat hero killed in 1969, a month after Kerry left Vietnam". There's nothing there questioning his medal and I don't believe that the Swiftees have mentioned him at all.
