The NYT article says the three bullet holes happened to Thurlow's boat. It is inconceivable that he would not be aware of them although it is quite conceivable, judging from Kerry's eagerness to write reports for all boats, that Thurlow was unaware of the damage report.

I quite agree that 3 holes do not an hours long battle make.

But, unless we get this sorted out it will become lexus/ nexus gospel that the damage report (and the intelligence reports) establish Kerry's version that they were taking fire and Thurlow will be discredited.
