Northern liberal elitists would have probably preferred that my family move into a gubmint subsidized apartment complex.
I guess that explains the federal mortuary team the government sent into Florida.
I'm going to fill up my car, just in case. :-)
Where were their families and friends? Or are we becoming like the French with their lack of fans for their loved ones? Just leave your grandparents to the government to care for?
At 11:00 it was 35 miles south of Wilmington according to the NWS. Maximum sustained winds of 75 mph with hurricane force winds extending outward for 45 miles and moving north-northeast.
A friend of mine couldn't decide if she wanted a place in Florida or North Carolina, so she just got one in each place, really nice mobile "modular" homes. It's really neat.
Were you talking about Pawley's Island last night? I was just down there for a beach music reunion in May.
Some of the Floyd deaths were traffic accidents during the mandatory evacuations, and the victims would have been just fine if they'd stayed home, since the hurricane ended up not hitting where it was predicted to hit.
People were complaining about the officials overreacting and making too many people evacuate, remember?
Yes, I sure do.
As somebody said on these threads last night, some people just like to COMPLAIN about everything; didn't need to leave, didn't tell us in time to leave.....blah blah blah.
I've lived in them --- it's great when you want extra cash and it's interesting how many people with money can be found living in them. I knew a professional couple with no kids who lived in one that was long paid off and the lot rent was very cheap --- I always wondered what they must have been saving their money for.
Charley made a believer out of me and I have lived in FL all my life. We lost power....just came back on. Minor tree damage but nothing structural. Thank you Lord.
I can see having a bumper sticker like that --- for my kids' sake so they'll realize they're going to have to make it on their own.
My family's "beach of choice" is now Huntington Beach State Park just north of PI.
Yet when it's $2 million mansions built on a beach and the mud slides drag them into an ocean, then they have more pity. I sort of don't have too much pity either way because it's all about individual choices --- don't put a mobile home in a hurricane coastal area, don't build a mansion right on the beach and think sand or mud never shifts or changes.
Charley made a believer out of me and I have lived in FL all my life. Came right over on top of me.....I-4 corridor. Just tree damage. But it was wild and wooley last night. Power just came back on.....11:30 est Sat.
>>there are already 150+ DOA at local hospitals <<
Oh no!
I hadn't heard that number...hoping it's not true.....
Finally!

Looks like Little River to me.
See 2776; coming at your place and/or us!
I was just talking to a friend of mine who has a place in Orlando AND Fort Macon. Double shot!
What's it coming in as? Praying for yall. Take care.
1500 active National Guard, and 5000 reserves called up to respond to state of emergency in Florida. 400 state law enforcement too. In Charlotte Co., the police dept is non-functional, fire departments--50% of them destroyed.
We came through fine here in DeLand. Couple of trees down, couple of traffic lights out, and I get the day off of work. Other than that we're business as usual really. Fort Myers, Punta Gordo and Port Charles got slammed pretty bad though, around 60 dead in Punta Gordo, so say a prayer for their families. Jenn's dad had trees come down all around his house and one or two on top of it, so we're waiting to hear from him again. We still haven't gotten word from Jenn's brother to see if they made it through ok. Keep us all in your prayers, thanks for the support guys!
Josh
