Just before I came home, they were telling folks in the counties adjacent to Orlando to stay put. The tornadoes were forming, and the storm moving too fast for them to evacuate. So sad. The Orange Co. (Orlando) EMO looked like he was going to cry. He was genuinely frightened.
Cleaest image is from the radar on post # 3 of this thread.
And that image has county lines onit so you can see the position very clearly.
Thank You, and God Bless You too and prayers are in order for Florida. I figure in a matter of minutes my power will be locked off too. See you all later and stay safe. vet out
Thanks, I ask because I have family in Sarasota.
Glad you are safe!
I don't think the people in Ft. Myers area would agree with you about its being overhyped.
Stay safe Orlando! God bless!
Winds have died down considerably - have friends who have been right in the path and reports are that it was not nearly as bad as what they were saying. I have a hard time believing that this was really a cat 4 when it hit.
CNN airing some new footage of the punta gorde area, looks bad.
Almost on top of Bartow now.
Past Fort Meade.
The radar shows a wall of rain and clouds almost on I-4 right now.
There is no such thing as a minor hurricane at strike point. However, there is a real difference in death and damage between cat 2 and cat 4. Ft. Meyers looked like it had localized structural damage but nothing widespread. Andrew was horrific in the amount of damage it did - this is no where close.
did you hear that one guy call in trying to contact Tampa. i think he was looking for a QSL card.
I lived right there near Universal on Kirkman Road. There was Cat. 1 hurricane that came through in 95. It was kinda of scary, the wind and lightning. Electricity luckily didn't go out. IIRC, top winds were 80mph.
Anybody know what the sustained winds are now?
Last reports Hurricane by Lake Wales (@ 50+ miles from Orlando) winds still over 100 mph + and the ETA in downtown Orlando in a hour. wow :(
sustained winds are 100+
Now remember to keep refreshing your screen periodically!
The radar image track changes about every ten minutes with new postions. What I'm seeing now, for example, is 15 minutes old: 7:20 Eastern.
No. I didn't here that. He should be shot.
You gotta love technology. Thanks for the info!
