Okay...let's say the Republicans do it your way. They play hardball...wow! and they just smash the democrats.
Then, these same republicans need democratic help on a bill...because a Collins, Chafee, or Snow decide not to support something.
What happens?
Do you think the democrats forgive and forget.
Do you think the democrats say, "that's all right that you humiliated us. We won't hold a grudge. What is it that you want.
100 Senators...most of them not going anywhere for the length of their lives. Each vote important. How do you decide who to make a permanent enemy.
And heaven forbid, we are out of power. Then what? The dems then say, "never mind how you treated us in the past... we will be bigger than you."
You can't have a scorched earth policy against people who you have to work with and need their cooperation.
All that being said (and please read this part) I think Bill Frist is too soft. I have written him and told him that. So, to toughen up wouldn't be a bad idea. But, when I read your post, I see that you want to slam the dems into the ground just for effect. I think that, in the long run, would be unhelpful.

I think Rush just said that Ashcroft was going to make an announcement this afternoon on a "big prosecution". Could it be Berger?

Nevermind. The "big announcement" was:
DALLAS - A federal indictment unsealed Tuesday charged a Muslim charity and seven men with conspiracy and dealing with terrorists.
