I don't think you help anti-semitism by being silent about it. Sharon's comments brought attention to the problem and heightened awareness of anti-semitism in a country that has clearly seen it growing.
I am surprised by the spin Israel is putting on Sharon's comments, "if he singled out France it was only to praise the efforts there". I think Sharon said what he meant and he meant what he said. And I think the Spindoctors are worse than democrats.

Sharon is an Israeli patriot. He is a Zionist pioneer, born in the British Palestine Mandate to immigrant parents and a player in the formation of the Israeli state. His entire life is dedicated to the Zionist project and whether one agrees or disagrees with his actions, ultimately he sees Jewish immigration as crucial to the state which motivates him to highlight issues like the anti-semitism in France. Naturally this would upset the French, but that's because their current government has very little empathy for anything that doesn't pay them dividends.
If they had a little bit of empathy, they wouldn't have reacted so coldly.
Chirac is a Girly Man, all French are Girly-Men. I've been on the lieberal chat boards today letting them know they are all Girly Men. That seems to really piss them off. I wonder why? They are supposed to think that is a good thing. Go figure.

Screw Chirac and the French's hurt feelings. Sharon chose a rather blunt way of making his point, but the rise of anti-Semitism in France is unmistakable. Putting more cops around synagogues is papering over an underlying societal attitude that bodes ill for the Jews there.
