Good point!!
I just came across a Boston Globe article from last year that mentions Kerry arranging the reassignment of his crew to safer duties before he left Viet Nam. I don't mean to disparage any Sailor's service here, but it's painfully obvious these guys are the only shipmates that support Kerry.
This raises a question that this post vietnam era Senior Chief can't get out of his mind: How the hell did a LT jg manage the pull to reassign 6 enlisted in a war zone? Did he persuade his Skipper to reassign them or did it come down from the Bureau of Naval Personnel(Kennedy influence)? I can't for the life of me see a Skipper voluntarily disbanding an experienced crew and absorbing the manpower hit. Anybody have a clue as to how this could happen?

Good point. Someone needs to investigate to determine if this story is true. If it is, now we know why his band of brothers are so loyal--they bugged out with him.
Thanks for the ping!
A lifetime of speaking about 4 short months in Vietnam.
Thanks for the ping I.T.!
Has the "self inflicted wounds" charge been explicitly made before? If this can be substantiated...
I too choke back bile every time I hear him start to talk about Vietnam. My father was in the Marines and did 3 tours over there between 63 & 68. He wasn't so great as a father, but by all accounts, he was one hellva Marine. My mom still hears from his men and if he were still alive, I suspect he'd have a few words to say.

Hey, now it's gone again, from my viewpoint. Can you still get there?
God love ya.

I hope this witness doesn't get depressed and shoot himself 7 or 8 times.
Thanks for the ping!
