Thrift stores and fleamarkets, under ten bucks

I go to sales every week. Haven't seen a set in thirty years of looking. I'm not interested in sets printed after 1940. They are dumbed down in a major way.

Try Amazon's z-shops. Somewhere someone is selling one of everything.

I looked on eBay and found a reprint set from 1950, all 20 volumes compressed into 10 books. Right now it's going for $16, but has five more days to go. My guess is it will go for several hundred.

There is something called the New Book of Knowledge from the same publisher, but it has been Americanized and has no charm. The original was published in 1911 in England (1911 Britanica, anyone).
