A young Saddam-like Baathist assassin did not break in and shoot the desecrator of the Mesopotamian marshlands in the back of the head.

This refers to the young Saddam who tried to assassinate the prime minister of Iraq. He plotted with others.

1959:
Fails in attempt to assassinate Iraqi prime minister Abdul Kassem. Wounded, he disguises himself as a woman and flees to Syria on a donkey.

Now don't go getting upset because I'm not picking on you, you just happen to be Friday morning's prime example.

"ping" is used to alert someone to a thread that you think they may find interesting. "bump" is the term you're looking for, as a bump puts the thread to the top of the Latest Posts page. What is the sense of pinging someone who is already on the thread?

You "ping" particular FReepers who you think are interested; you "bump" or "bump to the top" or "bttt" a thread that you find interesting and want to get on the Latest Posts page.

Sorry if I'm being pedantic.

Welcome to Free Republic.

Mia Culpa. I was actually trying to ping Ragtime Cowgirl but gave up in frustration because I obviously wasn't typing her name correctly. I needed more coffe and less typing.

Thanks for the pedantic advice ;)

So, when is Mr. Hanson going to renounce the Democrat Party and come over from the Dark Side? It is astonishing to me he remains a Democrat!

No dan, not a really GOOD essay, a really GREAT essay. Oh, to be able to write like that! And it's not just the writing skill, it's the content! Brilliant!

Thanks so much for the ping. Bookmarking.
