Kerry gets one of the Band of Brothers not even depicted in the firm.

President Bush gets the hero and star.

Life is good.

Ach! Not firm, film.

If Captain Sobel were still alive, he'd probably be campaigning with Kerry every day.

FR poster "Born Conservative" posted a link to Maj.Winters yesterday in a thread about Kerry inviting another Band of Brothers member to the WWII dedication.

http://www.majordickwinters.com/

"Please help us and Major Richard D. Winters (ret) get the Medal of Honor that he and his men deserve, earned, and was nominated for during World War II. You can do this by contacting your U.S. Senator. A list of U.S. Senators can be found at http://www.senate.gov/senators/index.cfm, please call, write, and/or e-mail your Senators. Please read the supporting documents below to form your opinion"

Please link to the above and do your part to get these guys the medals they deserve.

If Captain Sobel were still alive, he'd probably be campaigning with Kerry every day.

Stephen Ambrose was a lot more fair to Sobel in the book than I would've been.

He claims that Sobel's discipline was a factor in Easy's performance on the battlefield. I personally disagree.

Besides Winters, my favorite is ole' Shifty Powers.

Ambrose's work is my only knowledge of Sobel and his behavior, so I do not consider myself equipped to offer an opinion as to that question.

I cannot recommend "Band of Brothers" by Stephen Ambrose highly enough.

An excellent book. Maj. Winters was a superb soldier and commander.

Nixon was one of my favorites, and Guarnere (I don't know why, really).

Odd, though, when Easy Company is getting word about the Ardennes offensive, they are getting details from a young corporal (IIRC) who drives up in a jeep with ammo supplies. The actor playing him: Jimmy Fallon, from SNL.

Who is Kerry's guy?

I don't know. BTW, yours is the operative question of the day. Who endorsed Kerry?

Kerry has invited Joseph Lesniewski, one of the original 'Band of Brothers' from the 'Easy Company' of the 101st Airborne Division.

Lesniewski is one of the 18 living paratroopers from original 147 members of Easy Company. He was part of the 506th Regiment immortalized in the Stephen Ambrose novel Band of Brothers. Lesniewski "jumped" into enemy territory on D-Day during the invasion of Normandy, earning numerous medals including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.

He was only mentioned a few times in the book and I think in the mini series he was only shown as the soldier who was with the solider that got shot in the neck. Still, besides his politics, a worthy fellow.
