Bushnell was overheard once talking to Felos saying something along the lines of "George, you'll stop at nothing until you get every last penny of Terri's" and
Felos agreed.

wow. really? why can that not be used in some way?

Surely others have heard him say that in other places -- I pray that any witnesses to the truth in Terris case will come forward.

Reporting a step in the right direction...

BUSH SIGNS AGENCY FOR DISABLED INTO LAW

Orlando - A new agency for the developmentally disabled will be created under a bill Gov. Jeb Bush signed into law Friday, taking over services the Dept. of Children and Families now provides for 30,000 people.

The Agency for Persons With Disabilities will help people who have a variety of developmental disabilities, such as mental retardation, autism and cerebral palsy. It will provide services such as adult day care, education and assistance finding jobs and homes. All are now part of a 1.1 billion dollar program DCF manages.

Undesr DCF, which also runs a child welfare agency and provides services in areas such as mental health, substance abuse, domestic violence and adult protection, the developmentally disabled program has run millions over budget in recent years and has had a growing waiting list despite budget increases. So Bush proposed the new agency exclusively for the disabled.

"It's something we advocates in the field have had as a hope and a dream for a number of years now," said John Hall, executive direction of the Association for Retarded Citizens of Florida.

FV SAYS: Even with all that cash, DCF failed Terri time and time again. If anyone here complained to Tallahassee about DCF, thanks. FV

I think we're turning a corner but I'm proceeding as if things weren't looking up for Terri. Circumstances can change on a dime here. If you would like to excerpt anything from the hrg notes on this thread, feel free. It's just too large to post the entire section thru Janice Vangelinos, Hospice's first and worst witness imo. FV

Hi, fv -- I am hoping splitting from DCF and making The Agency for Persons With Disabilities will truly prove to be a step in the right direction. Praying at its inception that God's wisdom and providence brings in the right compassionate, wise people to help those who need it. Praying that anyone in a position to help on Terri and her family will step forward and do so.

THANKS, Gov. Bush.

Jeb Bush sticks to his guns. We're lucky to have him as our governor.

Florida Legislature: Committee approves plan to create agency for the disabled

By Associated Press
April 21, 2004

TALLAHASSEE — A new state agency would handle the $1.1 billion developmental disabilities program now managed by the Department of Children & Families, under a bill approved by Tuesday by the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Supporters say the Agency for Persons With Disabilities would provide greater attention for 30,000 developmentally disabled residents being served by the state. The committee approved the bill (SB 1280) sponsored by Sen. Durell Peaden, R-Crestview, without discussion.

Advocates for the disabled welcome the proposal.

"By having a separate agency we can rest assured that the full focus and attention will be on people with developmental disabilities and their families," said John Hall, executive director of the Association for Retarded Citizens of Florida.

DCF's developmentally disabled program has run millions of dollars over budget in recent years and has had a growing waiting list despite substantial budget increases.

DCF Secretary Jerry Regier is conducting several audits to address the problems and has said the program will stay within budget this year after adjusting the rate paid for client services. He is also working to change the billing system, making it easier to detect fraud or recoup overpayments on claims.

Rep. Sandy Murman, R-Tampa, plans to amend a House bill, inserting language to create the agency.

I would presume that this new agency will claim no jurisdiction over matters "in the hands of our courts." Therefore, it won't be worth a bucket of warm spit in bringing justice to Terri Schiavo.

That term, "developmentally disabled" concerns me. Terri doesn't fit the definition.

I think this is a fine thing (the new agency) for Florida, I'm just not sure that it's going to help Terri. :-(

Without seeing the entire new law, there's no way to know for certain who or what is covered. I don't think developmentally disabled is the only prerequisite.

On another note: VISITATION TODAY WITH TERRI NEWS: May 29, 2004:

"They had a delightful time. I guess everyone piled in there at once and Terri was a tiny bit surprised by the crowd at first, but he said she was very cool after that. Bob said she was very responsive, chatty, oriented, enjoyed herself. She looked well, looked comfy, nothing odd going on. I'll be she was just overjoyed to see the entire crowd at once - especially with Monsignor being there. She is mighty, mighty fond of him."

---We interrupt this Terri post to bring you the following message for Veterans---

Happy and peaceful Memorial Day to you vets and you protectors of the rest of us.

Though this day is a symbol of respect to those who have fallen, those of you who have returned home have my utmost respect as well. You took on the task that I cannot. You gave of yourself for others. You disregarded your own life for the sake of your fellow man and woman.

For that I thank you. I shall always respect you.

I wish a peaceful and reflective Memorial Day to you and thank you for protecting my life and liberties.

---We return you now to our Terri thread already in progress---

Hi, t -- I'm not sure what, if anything, it means for Terri, either.

http://fccflorida.org/bknews/Legislation_03_04/SB%201280%20Summary.pdf -- Summary of SB1280 by Senator Peadon: Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD)

Here's one difference: Under the old system, the director of the Developmental Disabilities (DD) program was under the supervision of a Deputy Secretary of the DCF. Now the director of the APD will be appointed by and will answer to the Governor.

To: TOUGH STOUGH

Hi, TOUGH -- that is such a good question, how do we know who to trust here. Best to have laid eyes on someone, to have held a sign alongside them, see how they handle themselves. That's a luxury. And there might still be a hidden agenda, or they can change and become someone else entirely, ie, weird and even hurtful. So that's not 100%, as freepers have found out to their chagrin.

How much more difficult to assess each other online! I look for consistency, my gut feelings (or was that the pizza, lol?!), lots of prayer for my and others' wisdom and discernment, and I try for circumspection in what I say.

It is especially tough on something like this, where the stakes are absolutely so high and precious. Look for documentation, which with Terri is sometimes good, sometimes bad. Seems to me it is best for us each to be true to ourselves, do what we see to do, fill in where we see something can be done, take everyone and everything with a grain of salt, and sometimes when necessary go with the gut feeling and even blind faith.

There have been times I've not really known whether Terri is doing all right or not -- in my mind, she is NOT ok or out of danger until she is out of Michael's grasp.

I couldn't find the story you referred to on that page -- I'll check again. But I did like this story: http://www.cst-phl.com/youth.html

'“The culture of death has perverted the intentions of God in general but, in particular, it’s perverted the sacredness of the body. The body is a gift from God. It’s good.”

The Franciscan Friar of the Renewal points out that the culture has the deceptive power to make one believe that nothing is a big deal or that bad. What has become legalized, has become normalized, he said, making the culture more and more confused to the truth although it speaks with authority.'

That's what's happening in the right to be put to death movement.
