Two Israeli men have been arrested after evading Unicoi County, Tennessee sheriff`s deputies, driving eratically on a two lane highway, and littering.

But, there may be more to their apprehension than that. Sheriff Kent Harris says the stories they`ve been telling investigators simply don`t add up.

The two men led authorities on a three-mile high speed chase in a rented moving truck. Lt. Ron Arnold says one of the men had a fake Florida i.d. and passports found didn`t add up.

The FBI is now testing a bottle thrown from the truck during the pursuit. Robert White, the community member who found the bottle, says it had a powder and liquid in it. Sheriff Harris says the substance didn`t test for any type of drug, but did for a fuel source.

The driver, 23-year old Samuel Dahan and passenger 19-year old Almaliach Noar claim they were delivering furniture and were headed to Boston, Massachusetts.

Authorities found a couple of "learning to fly" business cards during a search of the moving truck. Both men are being held in seperate cells pending a bond hearing Monday morning. Investigators have determined both men are living in the United States legally.

Israeli's alibi

"The MadCowMorningNews has learned that the elderly woman who (supposedly) provided the two Israelis arrested in Oak Harbor Washington with their alibi has—just one week later—moved, or disappeared, and cannot be found to corroborate her account.

In Oak Harbor, Washington, Fox News reported last week that two Israelis with altered passports were apprehended in a rental truck containing traces of TNT and plastic explosives on a state highway running past the home of a fleet of U.S. electronic spy planes, Whidbey Island Naval Air Station.

According to an FBI spokesman in Seattle, local police had pulled the Israelis over for speeding, and then became suspicious after one of the men was found to be in possession of an altered passport and the other was unable to produce any identification other than an Israeli driver's license." <>More at the link. Too, too wierd.

Let me see if I've got this right. Two Israelis were arrested by a Mad Cow while sitting in the back of a Ryder truck drinking moonshine? It figures.

ISRAELIS ARRESTED IN UNICOI; PROVIDED FALSE ID TO POLICE

Two Israeli men are being held without bond in Unicoi County after a high-speed chase in a rental truck.

The men -- identified as Shmuel Dahan and Almaliach Naor -- were in court today, but there was no bond hearing because the two are awaiting help from the Israeli consulate.

The 23-year-old driver was charged with reckless driving, littering, false identification and evading arrest. The other man faces charges of false identification.

Lawyer William Lawson was appointed by the court to represent the men.

He says they had rented the truck to haul furniture and got lost when they pulled off Interstate 26.

Sheriff Kent Harris says they were driving 20 miles over the speed limit on a state highway.

There was no immediate explanation why they refused to stop for police.

Unicoi County Sheriff Kent Harris says a witness brought troopers a vial the men had thrown out of the truck. Harris says when it was shaken, the thick liquid in the vial became warm.

Six o'clock news on WJHL, Johnson City.

Showed the suspects in court, but did not share exactly what transpired.

Reporter said that no bond will be set, until the substance in the vial is identified.

Suspects deny throwing anything out of the truck.

Say that they took a wrong turn, which is why they were on 23 instead of I-26.

Reporter said that they are in country legally, and they had recently renewed their passports.

Heard earlier in the day that they were not listed on any watch list. To which I wonder, have they really identified these goobers or not? But, the F.B.I. is on the case, so I guess we can hope for the best.

Have been appointed lawyers. (Of course, they are destitute.) I really hope they are 110% sure before they cut these clowns loose. It's just not passing the smell test.

Harris said early Monday afternoon he was waiting on the results of tests on the liquid substance in the brown container. The bottle contained a "gooey liquid" and some sort of pellets. The bottle appeared as if it had once held pesticides of some sort, but the label was missing. Field tests done by officers turned up no evidence of drugs. "We don't know exactly what's in it yet," Harris said.

The sheriff said witnesses saw the men throw something from the truck while they were being pursued. A witness brought officers a vial containing an unknown substance, he said.

Lawson said the vial contained a "fuel source,'' but he added that it hasn't been identified and authorities were treating it with caution.

Harris said the liquid in the 12-ounce plastic container was thick, like liquid drain cleaner. It will be sent to either East Tennessee State University or the FBI's crime lab in Knoxville to be tested.

----- The truck, rented from a Ryder office in the Miami area, was being held in the county garage, Harris said. He also said the men had a storage unit rented in Mars Hill, N.C. ----

I heard nothing new this afternoon on Newstalk 99 out of Knoxville, other than the Israelis have not shown up on any lists of people to watch out for.
