I did not say anything at all like that, and I inferred nothing...I only made a statement.

You forgot to include the word "Hero" in your description of your great-uncle. He was definitely that.

I don't think most media (at least not the media Kerry agrees to talk to) will ever ask him these hard questions. They just take the MTV approach and begin with "obviously, Kerry is a war hero, unlike George Bush who only poses on aircraft carriers". To even question Kerry's record is seen as unthinkable, such are the depths of Kerry worship/Bush hatred.

I just assumed that Kerry contracted some nasty infections from Vietnamese hookers and that was the grounds for his Purple Hearts.
To: kennedy
As usual, the enlisted people get to do their full term, no three Purples and out.

I think it has become very clear that Kerry went to Vietnam with the "Three Purple Hearts and You're Out" strategy in his back pocket. This was just part of his overall "I'm Going To Be President of The United States Someday" plan. God help us if he is successful.

What it sounds like to you, and what I said, are two different things. The topic at hand was whether or not the Purple Hearts were deserved, not whether or not Kerry was in country. When taken within the context of the discussion, my interpretation of your remarks was valid. In future you should probably be more explicit in your comments since many of us are not mind readers.

Most Vets I don't think walk around bragging about their medals.I think most honorable vets don't walk around bragging about it because they recognize that there are others who suffered more. It's hard for a person of honor to place their own sacrifice on a plain higher than that of others, even if they deserve it.

The objective of the Kerry campaign's attack on Bush's record in the Air National Guard was to put Bush on the defensive and divert any real attention on Kerry's military service beyond what is already in the mainstream media. It seems to have worked to a limited extent as most in the Administration go out of the way to say that Kerry served his country honorably and had a distinguished military record. Hopefully, GWB surrogates will demand more information on Kerry's service and suspicious early departure from Vietnam and questionable circumstances surrounding his medals.
Any guy who films himself as some sort of ground pounding grunt in the jungle and recreates "battles" has a political ambition that exceeds normal bounds. Kerry is a self-promoting poseur.

I try not to read too much into what I see...I like to take things at face value. In the future, I will try to be more explicit.

I'll be in the market for one of those in a month or so. Maybe I'll get a fishook in my finger..or even a lingcod barb...I'll send the Navy any wound information. If I get three, I hear I can run for President.
