It's hard to put a finger on who Lurch is reminiscent of because he changes his identity several times a day. He's even worse than Albore in attempting to be all things to all people. Remember those Duracell commercials many years ago with that creepy looking family made out of plastic? After the botox, that's who he reminds me of now.

Kerry reminds me of NIEDERMEYER (Animal House). "Give it to NIEDERMEYER, he's a sneaky sh*t"...Dean WORMER. Semper Fidelis.

Great article. I am so glad I am not the only one trying to put my finger on why John Kerry is so irritating. Frank Burns is good. In a way Kerry also reminds me of General Custer as portrayed in the movie Little Big Man. An annoying, rude, vain, ambitious, snob. Kerry's motto in speech making must be, "Why use one word when two or more will do." Why? I think he just loves to hear himself talk. I am already so tired of that lofty tone of his. Wait till the debates. Bush is going to seem so warm and approachable and normal compared to the ice king.

Kerry reminds me of a character in the later years of the old Andy Griffith show, a blow-hard deputy from Beantown who I'm pretty sure was named Warren Ferguson. The actor who played him is Jack Burns. I've tried finding a picture, but with no luck. I wouldn't know how to post it if I found it, anyway

Maurine Dowd accicentally nailed it: J. Alfred Prufrock.

There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea.

And indeed there will be time
To wonder, “Do I dare?” and, “Do I dare?”
Time to turn back and descend the stair,
With a bald spot in the middle of my hair—
[They will say: “How his hair is growing thin!”]
My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,
My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pin—
[They will say: “But how his arms and legs are thin!”]
Do I dare Disturb the universe?
In a minute there is time
For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse

I am no prophet—and here’s no great matter;
I have seen the moment of my greatness flicker,
And I have seen the eternal Footman hold my coat, and snicker,
And in short, I was afraid.

No! I am not Prince Hamlet, nor was meant to be;
Am an attendant lord, one that will do
To swell a progress, start a scene or two,
Advise the prince; no doubt, an easy tool,
Deferential, glad to be of use,
Politic, cautious, and meticulous;
Full of high sentence, but a bit obtuse;
At times, indeed, almost ridiculous—
Almost, at times, the Fool.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?

and so forth

He looks like an aging Gomer Pyle to me! Or a skinny chipmunk.

I still vote for Herman Munster; with Teresa as Lily, George Soros as Grandpa, and Michael Moore as Eddie. Still haven't figured out who should be cast as Marilyn.

He is Seinfeld. He's the guy who goes yadda yadda yadda yadda out on the campaign trail. Nobody can identify anything of consequence that represents the real Kerry and the operative message of his campaign.

FOR THE LITERARY MINDED, the match is more obscure, but just as compelling. It requires a reach all the way back to the papers of Diedrich Knickerbocker, as arranged by Washington Irving, specifically to the character Ichabod Crane...
From http://home.att.net/~ShadowlandHome/SleepyHollow_frame.html:

Perhaps Johnny Depp COULD BE "Scary Kerry..."

...but I cannot BEGIN to imagine Christina Ricci as Teresa Heinz. :o)
