As I see it: Homosexuals must be accepted as the human beings that they are. It's their homosexual behavior that we must not accept. I am aware of the popular paraphrased teaching of Jesus Christ that instructs his followers to "hate the sin, love the sinner". However, as a father of three children I find it increasingly difficult to withstand the temptation to become involved in vigilantism, especially where it involves the abuse of children. As the lawbreakers become more brazen, and as our leaders open their arms ever wider to immorality, there will come a time when, like Lot, we will be faced with a clear choice. Will we offer our children to the mob of sodomites, or will we fight?
I accept the teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth as the only truth and I trust in him and him alone for the salvation of my family. There are things far worse than killing or being killed in the defense of one's family. I just pray that I am never faced with that choice.

It seems to me the gentleman was unfairly outed; and merely was honest when he was asked a question. I don't believe in homosexuals proselytizing in the schools, and I also believe the teachers who told students about this man's orientation behaved unprofessionally. I disagee. He didn't have to answer the question -- teachers don't answer every question students ask, of course. And how about this? "Upon hearing some negative comments, Fanelle read aloud to the class the sexual-harassment code from the student handbook, and discussed topics ranging from suffrage and bigotry to the Magna Carta." That's pretty clear that he's threatening his students with disciplinary action if they continued to make negative comments about him being married to a man.
As for his complaint about the other teachers, if he didn't want people gossiping about his private life, he should have kept his private life, well, private!

Teachers reveal their sexuality to students all the time. When their husbands or wifes pick them up after school, when they attend school activities, and when they are seen in the community together. Are you suggesting that they should be fired if a student see them with their spouse or boy or girl friend?

"The kids walked in and there was a buzz about it," Fanelle told the Los Angeles Times. "They said, 'We heard you got married on Valentine's Day; is it true?' I said yes. They asked, 'Was it a man?' I said yes. Then they gave me a standing ovation." This is disgusting. What kind of warped concept of morality are these kids learning in LA?

I can't remember one instance of a teacher bringing a spouse into the classroom when I was young. Endorsing an unnatural sexual act in the classroom is a form of sexual harrassment and is a grounds for dismissal, even in my God forsaken liberal state.
To: PeoplesRepublicOfWashington
I did not mention bringing anyone into the classroom. I mentioned situations in which students might routinely find out a teachers sexuality and asked you what should be done. It started with your comment that teachers should not divulge their sexuality.

They should not divulge their sexual preferences in the classroom.
At my daughter's middle school last year, a homosexual girls' gym teacher had her "wife" drop by the "their" children. The "wife" was introduced as such (homosexual marriage is not legal in this state), and the children were introduced as "theirs." This bothered by daughter who talked to me about it. She asked me to talk to the principle, and I did. He, not surprisingly, told me it never happened. I told him I believed it did, and he could count on a sexual harrassment complaint being filed against the school district if it happened again. Since then, I've received no complaints from my daughter.
I do believe that publically divulging one's preference for perverted sexual activity in the community--outside the classroom and off school property--is valid grounds for dismissal. I think the law in this state would allow it, but I'd have no confidence in getting the school district to take such action or the courts upholding the law in this county.

I am suggesting that they tell the students that it is none of their business.
Would you suggest that a teacher answer truthfully if a child asks if he/she is into S&M? Some things should be kept out the the schools, period.
I would have no problem with Homosexuals if they were not "IN MY FACE" and have me lying to my children with the "just tell them it's a friend" line. Like my sister.
Keep it in your bedroom and out of my child's class.

Of course you are answering my question to the other poster. I believe it is impossible in many situations for teachers to keep the fact that they are married or have a relationship with someone from their students, especially if they live in the district where they teach, If your goal is that your kids not know that their teacher is homosexual, how can you ensure that its avoided?

The goal should be that everyone keep their sex life out of the school.
Let the rumors fly, kids talk. So what? Better to leave a shadow of a doubt.

Absolutely disgusting. I would homeschool also (tried explaining that to a liberal friend: like talking to a wall)

I thank whatever gods may be that I never had such a teacher.
My favorite teacher brought weapons, uniforms and artifacts to illustrate history.
Revolutionary war, War of 1812, (un)Civil War,WWI, WWII. He had it all. (He was a gun collector who never fired his weapons. He was cursed with poor eyesight.)
He died many years ago, but if he was alive and teaching now, he'd be arrested for bringing a gun to school.
That ain't right.
