"The real shocker might be what comes next: the execution of Crockett by Mexican soldiers, a movie scene that's sure to be seen as sacrilege by rabid Alamophiles who like to imagine the myth-shrouded "Lion of the West" going down fighting."

Either way you see it...the Texas soldiers at the Alamo were murdered by Santa Anna's soldiers. And 1 in 4 of the Texas soldiers was a Mexican who was rebelling against Santa Anna's rule. He was the Saddam of his day.

Of cource now they have Vincente Fox who is leading and promoting a differnet type of Mexican invasion. May he rot in hell.

"There are several documents that seem to support Crockett was executed, but there's plenty of room for scholarly dispute."

Everyone knows that Crockett died blowing up the Alamo's armory.

I thought maybe this movie would fuel Liberals, screaming about racism and and all that lot....until I found out that Mexicans to this day hate Santa Anna.

His final words? "I'm a screamer."

Sounds like the screenplay was written by a homosexual with an ax to grind.

That may have been true overall in Texas (I haven't checked the San Jacinto order of battle), but the list from the Alamo shows only 8 or 9 of Mexican descent. To be sure, the Grand San Antonio Families (of Mexican descent) did support the Texians.

Visited the sets where this was filmed, just south of Austin. It is amazing what they can do with papiermache, fiber glass, etc. Old San Antonio and an exact replica of the old Alamo still stands there (although it is deteriorating rapidly). I'm hoping for a historically factual "Alamo" movie, but previews aren't sounding hopeful. It has to be better than that terrible "The Alamo" they are showing at the Imax in San Antonio. I was disgusted after seeing that one (Native Texan that I am!).

John Wayne's 1960`s epic "The Alamo" while somewhat pretentious, was also an ambitious effort that was nominated for best picture. Billy Bob Thorton playing Davey Crockett sounds like quite a stretch in my book.

Too bad he had to get stabbed first: But at least he made the guy hop off his horse in order to get him.

I don't know...sassing and mocking your captors before getting hacked to death sounds pretty heroic to me.

I'll withhold judgment until the movie is released.

I wasn't judging the movie, or the plot. I just can't see BB Thorton as Davy Crockett. John Wayne, yeah.

It was my understanding that Crockett was taken alive and claimed to be a "tourist."
