There is a big reservoir north of Yosemite in the Sierras called the Hetch Hetchy (named after someone). it was created in the 20's and some people say it was more beautiful than Yosemite.
There is a series of tunnels that come from the reservoir, across the Central Valley, under the hills of the east Bay, across the SF bay, up the peninsula (they go through the Stanford Campus) and end at two reservoirs south of SF. This is the drinking water for SF. It is from the 20's and 30's and needs several BILLIONS in repairs. It is owned by the city/county of SF.
If there is a major quake that damages the pipes, they say that Sf could be without drinking water for months.

Ansel Adams took lots of pictures of Hetch Hetchy valley before it was flooded.

It was a jewel. Flooding it was vandalism.

Breach the dam. Let the liberals live up to their own ideals.

BTW what gives this bozo right to the title Engineer?

Notice how many evil SUVs the government owns? They're being used by the same scolds who continually hector us about how we all ought to be driving "environmentally friendly" cars or taking public transit. Next time some enviro starts talking smack about SUVs, throw that little fact in his face.

$4,000 paint job on his new city-owned SUV because he didn't like the color

If it were his car, they should have just bought it in the right color. Usually, any color costs the same on most cars, (except for metallic colors in a few brands such as BMW and Mercedes Benz, which I can't imagine the city buying), so black should cost the same as white.

But, if it weren't his car, then he shouldn't have had a choice. In fact, unless he needs to do off-road driving as part of his job, he should have been issued an environmentally-friendly compact car if at all.

...
the mayor [Gavin Newsom] has gone a step further -- ordering all agencies, aside from public safety, to cut their car fleet by 15 percent to help deal with the city's big-time budget problems. Estimated annual savings: $380,000.
...
PUC President Dennis Normandy made it clear he doesn't want another embarrassment, telling Martel to get a fleet manager in place pronto to oversee the maintenance and handling of all the agency's vehicles.

Is this SF's own PUC, as suggested by the first line of the article, or is it the state PUC. If it's the city's PUC, how much will SF save after it hires a fleet manager and perhaps doesn't cut enough cars to meet the 15% reduction level?
