Every superpower lost power by being to (sic) selfish??
You're kidding!
So this is what education has come to.

Vote vote-pfuscher I fully intend to vote. But there's no need to stoop to that sort of language in order to exhort me to do so.

They weren't German, were they? I was sure they said "Netherlands" and I think they were getting advice from the FreeDominion folks.

The German I studied in Jr. High and High (Middle) School has been virtually useless in my daily life. (Even when I had a German roommate). The smatterings of Spanish, Vietnamese, Mandarin Chinese, Thai, and Hindi that I picked up along the way are slightly more useful.
English is by far the worlds most popular second language. When it's your first language, there isn't a clear choice as to what to learn next...

So don't laugh about a few mistakes of a foreigner. I wasn't laughing at you. Expressing pity, yes. Laughing, no.

Thats why many europeans - even conservatives - are afraid of your way leading to dictatorship. You're projecting your problems on us. But Americans are a far more independent lot, and we won't hanging thirty-meter-long portraits of a Fuhrer any time soon.
Meantime, you'll just have to choke back your envy and try to convince yourself you're doing the right thing.

While most of you americans never left your own country (unless there is a war, not being able to get unfiltered information of foreign media many germans can even read your newspapers, your tv and your web-pages. Americans read foreign news sources. Esepecially FReepers. How do you think we wound up at Der Spiegel's webpoll anyway?

Don't call out to us for help when Chirac runs rough shod over your country - our military bases are being moved to friendlier and far more receptive allies.
Of course you don't understand that - you think only tyrants who murder Germans should be ousted from power and all others should remain. You have no shame.

You miss the point.
We know a staggering amount about the rest of the world.
We just think you are arrogantly and needlessly ignorant, and jealous, petty socialists.
BTW, I spent a few years in your country.
In my educated opinion, the beauty of the landscape is wasted on the emptiness of your souls.
But do enjoy your short sojourn here!

Why is Free Republic the only site ever cited by the media for engaging in this activity of sending readers to online polls? FR is not the only site that does this (or even the only one that successfully does this).
The media knows this. We are the only ones who get called out for it. Why does the left get a pass?
