When Drudge spoke to the R&R convention last week...
Matt Drudge Says Kerry Story 'Still Active'
Despite the criticism he's heard since posting on his website a story that suggested Democratic front-runner John Kerry once had an extramarital affair, the Premiere Radio Networks host stood by his reporting and said the final word on the story may not have been written. "I had gotten the girl's name and e-mails with her bragging about having an affair with Kerry," he told TRS attendees Saturday morning, explaining what led to his posting of the story. He added, "She had also done some interviews in which she was very flippant and coy. So I put my name on it, like I do everything I write." Still, he admitted the controversy got out of hand, saying, " I don't know how I lost control of this one." Drudge also took a shot at Don Imus, criticizing the longtime host for failing to question Kerry harder on the issue after the Democrat denied the charges on Imus' radio show. "That's a really good way to get to the bottom of things," Drudge commented wryly, adding, "By the time it got to Imus, it had made headlines around the world. We'll just see where that story goes." Meanwhile, Drudge also criticized Kerry for avoiding Talk radio since the Imus appearance. "He won't face Talk radio," Drudge said. "He'll face George Stephanopoulos [on TV], but he won't get down here in the gutter."

Drudge is ranting on the proud muckraking history of journalism in America, and the way the NYT and WP are sitting on high horses.

whooooo good rant on the need for controversy!
I noticed the story Drudge linked this week regarding Ethan Hawke contained his lamentations about how pathetic Hollywood scripts are these days.
