You'll come around.

Don't bet the farm on it.

I've left major office ballots blank before when voting. I have to have a reason to vote for someone. If they enact policies I hate and display a deliberate disregard for me, they can just go to hell before they get my vote.

He'd better start kicking that GOP congress in the ass and have them produce some real cuts. And instead of making pretty speeches about the rule of law, he can just enforce the border and immigration laws. And stop throwing our money at Africa and Iraq and every other screwed up country in the world.

Or he can reject my vote. I'm willing enough to be gotten. And the bar certainly isn't too high.

I am now. It's my money that he's stealing. At least when Clinton was in the White House, my party wrestled him into a headlock and made him cry the politico-philisophical equivalent of "uncle": "The era of big government is over."

We got control of the football and three years later, the quarterback is running the wrong way and the congress is asleep against the dem defense. The dims don't have to do anything to win with George "Touchback" Bush calling the shots.

I'm sick to death of these sanctimonious posters trying to portray themselves as the only conservatives around here.

We hear this a lot.

In truth, you'll vote for Bush if he promises you everything in the Kerry agenda and more.

You are partisan voters. Nothing could keep you from voting Bush/GOP. Since your vote is already settled, you are the FRingers. Bush and Rove can take you for granted.

Conservatives are the swing voters. Because Rove has failed to 'buy' the replacement voters they needed in order to dump us conservatives once and for all.

If you don't vote, then you can't legitimately bitch.

A blank vote will make you a "gelding."

It's not that they're Kerry supporters...it's that they're boneheads.

Yes, that too!

Then, what vestiges of the federal system envisioned by the founders still existed in 1860 were wiped away with the Civil War. From the moment the states ratified the Constitution, there has never been a day when the federal government has ceased to grow and gain more and more power. In our time, we cannot overturn more than 225 years of history. We can only argue on the margins of debates settled long ago.

If this is true (and I don't think it is) then I don't see any point in bothering anymore. It's seems to me you are saying a socialist system is inevitable... Marx would agree, I suppose.

For what it's worth, I don't mind a 'strong central government' one bit. I *want* one. I just want it to stay within its proper Constitutional bounds.

Re your point #2, respect for the Constitution isn't good enough. What's needed is a solid understanding of the Constitution, the historical context in which it was written and ratified,

One who respects the Constitution will, without exception, pursue such an understanding.

an understanding of just how far we have deviated from the Jeffersonian model, and an understanding of how to try to apply that early Constitutional framework to the world in which we find ourselves today.

This sounds suspiciously like the 'living document' crap to me.

The one overriding hallmark of conservatism is protection of the nation

I agree 100%. And giving in to domestic socialism is not how you go about it. (See my tagline) Bush has done a pretty good job of addressing foreign threats. But we have enemies *inside* this country's borders, many of them American citizens, and others coming across them. Is the administration ever going to do anything about protecting the nation from them?

How is he stealing your money? Your taxes have gone down!

The deficit will fall as revenue increases, just as it did after Reagan's tax cuts.

I must assume you are a conservative of the green eye shade variety, who only cares about your perceived pocketbook, nevermind the threat from terrorists.

Vote for whom you wish. We would welcome your vote, but if you cannot support this good and decent man, then so be it.

Result? The nation we are today is not the one bequeathed to us by the founders. So how do we overturn over two-and-a-quarter centuries of history?

First what you don't do.

How do you stop a car careening down a back towards a cliff? You don't step on the gas and steer towards the pit at the bottom.

You overturn two-and-a-quarter centuries of history by stepping on the brakes, and asking others to help you. Reagan did this, but he was alone and requested help. Help didn't arrive until '94, and by then we had a cokehead at the wheel. Now that we've got both someone who, at least in theory, knows which way the road to RIGHTeousness lay, and a sympathetic congress - why is he still stepping on the gas and steering towards the cliff?

How many times are you gonna tell us that you aren't going to vote for Bush, Good God your like a broken record, this forum supports the re-election of President George W. Bush because he is the only ELECTABLE Conservative, he might not be the answer to all your prayers, but he's a lot better than John Kerry, WTF will it take to get you higher than mighty spoiled little children to understand your way all the time?

The national security aspect of this election is, in my view, paramount. If Kerry or any dimrat gains the White House then the war is lost. Period. Any dimrat will retreat on the war allowing the terrorists and their state supporters to regroup, refit and redeploy. We cannot afford this.

It is not in the least helpful to start tearing into one another over Bush's shortcomings. He is all we have and if we don't reelect him we risk catastrophe. There has been much written about "nukes in DC" or Denver. If the Islamofascists are allowed the time we will indeed witness nukes or plagues or poisons released in our cities. This is no joke and no time to let other issues - no matter how dearly held our principles - to derail the vital need to reelect Bush.

If this were a time of peace of if the dimrat candidate was Sam Nunn or Henry Jackson I would probably sit this one out. I think Bush has put in a disappointing performance on many important domestic issues and the country is not better for it. But the dimrat candidate will undertake policies that will KILL THOUSANDS - POSSIBLY MILLIONS - OF AMERICANS AND OUR ALLIES. We cannot allow a dimrat to win. It is a matter of sheer survival.
