Yes, I've been on the Troop Prayer Thread for a long time. I don't check in every day but I have kept my prayers going every day!

"The effectual pray of a righteous man availeth much."

Thank you for your prayers - they are like a cover on a cold day, manna from heaven, a rushing spring in the desert, and many times - a soldier's only hope.

Keep praying!

Dear precious mother . .

If our Hevenly Father knows when a sparrow falls and can raise the dead, heal the leper, make the blind to see, and the deaf to hear - he can heal your son.

And so, Father God, have mercy on this dear child, heal him from the bottom of his feet to the top of his head in the Mighty Name of Jesus Christ - we forbid him not to come to you.

You and your son have my prayers and I believe that it is God's will to heal. Jesus healed everyone that had faith; faith works by love. I also believe in speaking The Word over situations and listening to healing Scriptures on CD or tape. This is a website that you might want to check out http://www.cancercleanse.com/ because the liver is the one organ that regenerates itself.

Kimmie, he is just gorgeous. Tell him I am praying for him in the deep of the night. While he is asleep, right now, I am asking God to heal your precious little boy. And as always, I ask, knowing that God told me to come to Him, believing. In Jesus name...

We are finally home safe and sound. I have, at this time, more good news than bad. Angels were with us (sometimes in obvious ways) the whole way, and we could feel God's hand covering us.

I'll put up a true update later this evening. Today is my first day back at work and we're slammed!!! I also brought back an unwelcome souvenir in the form of a bronchial infection, and haven't felt up to posting 'til now.

The update will be long, but mostly great.

Much love to ya'll, my friends!

Well, folks, we are home -- safe and sound. First I'll give the medical update, then share a bit about our trip.

Alpha 1, the disease my son has, causes 2 things: emphysema and liver disease/failure. We saw 2 specialists at Boston. Both were assoc. profs at Harvard Medical.

First, the good news....Jacob's lungs are "better than great" -- he passed all pulmonology tests with "flying colors" and has only a 5% chance of EVER getting the emphysema!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!

At first, the pulmonologist thought he had Cystic Fibrosis, but a sweat test quickly ruled that out. PRAISE GOD!!! He will have to be tested and treated for allergies, and possibly have his tonsils and adenoids out due to horrible snoring and sinus problems.

The liver doctor didn't have such great news, but we kind of expected that. She did point out that 3/4 of what the other hospital had told me about this disorder was WRONG! It's fairly technical, but she had me understanding it in 10 minutes. Jacob does have liver damage -- we just don't know how much. We'll be having a biopsy done pretty soon to determine the amount of damage and some sort of timeline on transplant. When she found out we'd been pushed into seeing nurse practitioners and dietitians at the other hospitals she just shook her head...and commented that we'd been treated wrong.

That's just a very quick synopsis of the medical end of the trip, but I think it gives all the details we have now. These people were so wonderful and talented that I knew within minutes that we had made the right decision in taking him there. Everyone was great -- from the receiptionists to the physicians. We were treated like royalty every step of the way.

Now a couple of tidbits until later about our trip itself. When we were not at the hospital we had FUN! The hotel staff fell in love with Jacob and went out of their way to make our time there comfortable and special...right down to hot chocolate served in silver on linen after our COLD, COLD walks! (The high there Thursday was in the high 20s -- and these southerners were FREEZING!) We went to the science museum and shopped and generally had a GREAT time once those kind doctors took a great deal of the burden off my shoulders.

An interesting thing happened Saturday. We were supposed to return home that day, flew out of Logan to Chicago O'Hare. Our flight was delayed by at least 4 hours due to poor weather conditions there and in Nashville. Right as we were finally about to board, a TRUCK ran into our PLANE on the tarmac!!!!! Can you believe it? It was so ludicrous it was comical. Luckily, no one was hurt but there weren't any more flights available that night. United paid for a hotel room and food in Chicago, and we flew the next morning to Washington's Reagan airport (couldn't get any direct flights!!). I got to see the cap building, the mall, washington monument, etc from both the airport and the air. Lovely.

Another amusing moment: flying into Reagan, I was chatting with my seat-mate and found she was going to DC on business, and was with the AFL-CIO. As we were flying over DC, I asked Jacob "Who lives there?" and of course he smiled and said, "President Bush!" I smiled and said yes. This woman leans up in her seat, looks at my son and says, "We don't like President Bush!" argggggghhhhh You'd have been proud, Freepers, I put my body between her and my son, looked her in the eye and said, "We LOVE President Bush. We are staunch conservatives." She harumphed and sat back in her seat. Funny, she didn't say anything else! lol

I'll update more and be on later. I caught a lull here at work and decided to share a bit for now.

Thanks so much for all your prayers. God is so good -- we could feel His hand covering us the entire way. He will work the liver situation out as well. I have faith that He will.
