Clinton also used his judicial appointment powers during a Congressinal recess. Worse yet, Clinton made recess appointments for people that had actually been rejected by the Senate - and left them in the position after their time expired.

local blacks who emphatically support Judge Pickering should send a delegate to Washington and provide an audience and testimony of their support to the Congress As I recall they did...several representatives.

IIRC, Charles Evers and others went to Washington and, at the very least, sat in support of Pickering during the hearing. I believe they talked to the Senators in support of Pickering, as well.
I don't think there is any way Schumer, et al, DIDN'T know of his support in the black community nor the real story behind Pickering.
Do any of you remember anything about this?
Thanks for the ping, onyx, and thank you for the post, summer.

Frankly, I think the NYT deserves some credit here, because no one else in media reported the positive reaction and black support in Pickering's hometown. (posted by summer)Agreed. The NYT does deserve credit for allowing this story to even see print. (posted by ThirstyMan)
Why? Because they did their job properly? Wake up, folks! This is what responible journalism is supposed to look like.
We have become so used to the cr*p the NYT and other sh*trags publish, that whenever they vary ever so minutely from the formula, we think they deserve to be praised and fawned over.
Maybe, if you are talking about classical conditioning, your praise might be justified; but I doubt that the buttheads at the "Slimes" will ever see your posts.
(Good job, though, summer. Thanks for reposting it.)

Well there's a big difference between saying the NYT "deserves credit" or "deserves some credit" and saying they deserve high praises. Heh, I think summer and I were saying that the NYT performed above our very low expectations, that's all...at least for my part.
You mention "responsible journalists," which we see so few of, but it's also important to be a responsible critic, giving "credit" when something is done right, even if it should be the expected standard.

Thanks, wardaddy! That's what I thought.
I think Evers had a bunch of people with him. Whether they met with the evil side of the Senate Judiciary Committee in their offices, or actually testified at Pickering's hearing, these Senators ALL know the truth.
Yet, they continue to lie about this wonderful man.
It's very good to see both of you. ;o)
I have the kids tomorrow. They are all out of school for MLK's birthday.
Nitey nite and y'all take care!

I think you understood my point, and I understand yours. The NYT performed above my very low expectations with this article, too, but they still have a lot to make up for. I doubt they can do it in my lifetime.

Hope your day is going well. Light snow and 20s here today. Single digits tonight. Nice dusting at my house this morning so I crawled into my "shabby" warehouse office at the crack of 11:00...lol...still, a mild winter here so far.
I wish W would just recess all of em but like nopardons pointed out to me, many nominees may not accept that....I had not thought of that.

We had the snow the other day...6 more inches and bitter cold.
And yes, Pickering is the ONLY nominee, who agreed to the recess post. I wish the others would have agreed too, but I understand the why of why they refused.

Continuing with personal information..... I hear tell it was a beautiful day here in sunny Southern CA, but you wouldn't know it by me: I crawled out of bed at 2:00 this afternoon, sloth that I am. :)
