Yeah, I think you're right. After the initial invasion, I believe French ground units fought with the allies. I'm sure quite a few units and individuals fought very hard and well.
I was trying to compare the initial entry of allied troops into Algeria and Morocco with the initial entry of German troops into Tunisia. The French killed hundreds or thousands of allied troops in the first few days, but didn't touch one Axis soldier when they first landed.
Thank goodness they later re-gained their senses and started fighting with the good guys.

Thank goodness they later re-gained their senses and started fighting with the good guys.A cynical person would say this was often more a case of joining what they saw as the winning side.

You may be right. Whatever their motives, I'm glad they re-joined the side of the good guys.

I think Turkey's membership in the E.U. is so important that the U.S. should consider subsidizing the E.U. to make it easier for Turkey to be admitted. If that fails, we should offer to bring Turkey into Nafta, even though it would be very complicated. Subsidize the EU? With what money, Mr. Friedman? And when did Turkey move to the North American continent... did Turkey and Canada switch places?
