It should not be a surprise that people were so sick of Dean in Vermont they elected a Republican governor (Jim Douglas).

I looked up the Vermont Governor's race. Dean's statewide totals decreased each election cycle. He won with 70% of the vote in 1996 and this decreased to 50 in 2000.
