The link from civets to humans (I thought) was established last May. The Chinese are a little behind on this one. Here's a pic.

Actually, a civet is not a cat but a "Viverrid"; this is the family which also includes mongooses.

Civet musk gland secretions are used as fixatives in many expensive perfumes.

Beautiful animals. A real pity they're going to be killed. If the Chinese government would enforce some basic hygienic measures, it would entirely unnecessary.

China banned trade in civets and 53 other wild animals last April amid sweeping efforts to stop the spread of SARS. That prohibition was lifted in August despite warnings by scientists that the animals might still be a health threat. This illustrates why Chicoms can't be trusted.

They where still going to be killed for food. These are not pets but are instead dinner.

Basic hygienic measures like not keeping 10's of thousands of wild animals in crowded markets :)

China is responsible for the large majority of new strains of influenza due to keeping chickens and ducks in close quarters with pigs and humans.

No kidding. If the US cattle were potentially spreading SARS instead of PMS, we'd hear no end of it.

(They call it PMS because 'mad cow disease' was already taken.)

But the ox is a domestic animal but civet is a wild animal .
